Soaring - Sean O'Loughlin
Soaring is an exciting composition for solo trumpet and concert band. The music is celebratory in nature and features the dynamic and rhythmic range of the trumpet. The piece opens with an American rhythmic gesture reminiscent of Aaron Copland and John Williams. The trumpet answers this gesture with a bold cadenza that will transform into the main melody a little later on in the piece. Slavic Scherzo (Furiant) - Joseph Compello
Inspired by the Slavonic Dances of Czech master Antonin Dvork, Joseph Compello has written his own Furiant, a Bohemian dance, usually in triple meter with frequently shifting accents. This dazzling little original piece makes much of the contrast between 6/8 and 3/4. This variety of rhythmic pulse gives the piece tremendous energy and momentum. Slavic Scherzo is a selection that will energize the band and delight the audience in equal measure.

At Sight (March) - Harold Bennett
