Randy Crawford led R&B veterans the Crusaders on the transatlantic hit "Street Life" (1979). A specially re-recorded version was featured in the soundtrack for the films Sharky's Machine and Jackie Brown. The composer Joseph Leslie "Joe" Sample (February 1, 1939 September 12, 2014) was an American pianist, keyboard player, and composer. He was one of the founding members of the Crusaders. but he enjoyed also a successful solo career and guested on many recordings including Miles Davis, George Benson, Jimmy Witherspoon, B. B. King, Eric Clapton, Steely Dan, Joni Mitchell, and the Supremes. Sample incorporated jazz, gospel, blues, Latin, and classical forms into his music. This arrangement can be used with a singer, but then need some attention to balance and please take away most melody lines. Electric Bass, Piano and Guitar are optional. If you would like to add an improvisation, please repeat bar 54 -62 without melody as many times you want. (Look at the piano part for chords).

"Answer Me, My Love" was originally written with German lyrics by Fred Rauch and music by Gerard Winkler under the title "Mutterlein". Shortly after, Carl Sigman wrote the English lyrics and gave it the title "Answer Me, My Love" which is now the most famous version. It became a hit in 1953, but it was during 1954 that Nat King Cole recorded it and made it a chart-topper in both the US and Europe. In 2000 the Canadian composer and singer Joni Mitchell included it on her successful record album "Both Sides Now". Join the Greek hero Perseus as he completes his impossible quest to behead a monstress and save his mother in this march for grade 3 concert band. Perseus, the son of Zeus and Danae, was raised as a hero to protect his mother from King Polydectes. To be rid of Perseus, Polydectes sent him on an impossible quest to bring back the head of Medusa, the mortal Gorgon who could turn people to stone with her gaze. Taking pity on him, the gods gifted Perseus winged sandals to fly, a helmet of invisibility, and a bronze shield. He found Medusa in her cave and, using the shield as a mirror to avoid her deadly gaze, cut off her head. Perseus then escaped Medusa's vengeful sisters, donning the helmet of invisibility and winged sandals. As Perseus flew home, drops of Medusa's blood fell to the earth creating the coral in the red sea and the many-colored snakes in Libya. When Perseus returned, he used Medusa's head to turn Polydectes to stone and free his mother from her imprisonment. He then presented the head to his divine protector Athena, who placed it in the center of her shield.

Otto M. Schwarz is endeavoring to contribute new ideas to concert band literature. He has contributed in the field of multimedia (Asteroid), and with his many compositions in symphonic/modern arrangement (Jazz Waltz No 1, Fire and Ice or Band Fever). His new composition Funk Attack is, as the name suggests, a piece in funk style. Otto M. Schwarz first gained his experience in his style in the 8o?s, transcribing numbers by famos Amerarican bands including "Earth, Wind and Fire", "Tower of Power"", and the British slap idol "Mark King" (Level 42). Funk attack is atypical of "the concert band scene" and requires absolute precision in phrasing and rhythm. Without the support of agreat percussion groove, the orchestra plays an interlocked theme in the central section in style of recent American Big Bands. Otto M. Schwarz dedicated this work to "Alexander Veit and Symphonic Winds".

Elgar's five Pomp and Circumstance Marches were written between 1901 and 1930 with number 1 undoubtedly being the most popular of the five. King Edward VII told Elgar that the tune would 'go round the world' if words were fitted to it. Elgar took the hint and included it (with slight rhythmic changes) in his Coronation Ode of 1902, with words by A. C. Benson. Thus was born Land of Hope and Glory which is now, of course, an integral part of the annual Last Night of the Proms, when the audience (with varying degrees of success!) sing the words along to the original march. Now your concert band can enjoy all the pomp and ceremony of the proms with this arrangement by Philip Sparke.
