"Big Blue Eyes" is jolly Latin pop piece for soloist and Concert Band. Originally written for Flugelhorn and band but it can be played on any instrument.Solo parts are written in many keys.The soloist may start playing (ad lib.) before falling into the melody and then the rest of the band will follow.Perhaps you can introduce a guest star to play while walking in to the stage (from the audience?). This work was commissioned by the Lampasas High School Band, Lampasas, Texas, Richard Hooper, Director, in memory of their classmate and friend, Chris Cruz, and his father and sister. Chris was a saxophone player, Eagle Scout and junior in high school. He was a much-loved member of the high school band and this work was commissioned in honor and memory of him. The title refers to Chris favorite time of the year: the end of summer, band camp, the start of school, the start of fall, football games, band competitions and all the other fun times that come along for high school band students "as the days become shorter." Energetic and driving, much like the life that Chris lived, this work is meant to be a celebration of his life and spirit.

Summer Dances - Adam Gorb
'Summer Dances' is a joyful work in three short movements celebrating my favourite season where people are happiest outdoors. Each movement is a celebration the first movement 'Summer Day' celebrates the open air, with a bold and arrogant melody in 10/8 time, whose rhythm dominates the movement. The next movement 'Summer Night' could be described as a 'Beach Habanera' led by a sensuous trumpet melody. The movement ends with an ambiguous harmonic build-up, which is resolved at the start of the finale 'Summer Party' with a folk like theme that is passed round the ensemble, building up, (with suggestions of the first movement theme) to a riotous and festive ending. Summer Dances was commissioned by HAFABRA Music, Louis Martinus in collaboration with Biblioservice Gelderland/Music department MUI, Arhnhem, the Netherlands. Regarding interpretation suggestions: Movement 1) Lively but not too fast very much a piece for the full ensemble, up until the final six bars when things become more subtle and intimate maybe sunset.... Movement 2) Very laid back and sexy. The movement should be thought of as a wonderfully promising 'first date' or 'wedding night', with great possibilities with the unresolved chord at the end of the movement.... Movement 3) As fast as is comfortably possible. The start should be delicate and chamber music like, but increase in general excitement, particularly from figure 31. Something should be saved up for a true fortissimo at 34.

Keep the Faith - Score and Parts - Duncan Stubbs
Program NotesKeep the Faith originally started as a personal tribute to my late mother. Not long after writing the opening ideas I was approached to write music to accompany a rendition of the poem "We Will Keep the Faith" by Moina Michael for performance as part of the 100th Anniversary of the start og World War I. The appropriateness of the music already written and the sentiment behind both concepts was a coincidence too good to overlook. Rarely sentimental and always practical I feel sure my mum would be delighted that the music she originally inspired was being used to portray a much wider universal message of remembrance.Whether performed with or without the poem a fully sustained sound should always be aimed for. The 'bugle' call at bar 20 and again at bar 76 should reflect a distant call across the trenches, the cornet remaining prominent over the upper woodwind. The tempo indication is a guide only and allowance must be made for the acoustic in which the piece is performed. The music must always flow, but appropriate rubato should be freely used together with appropriate tenuto in the middle of phrases.- Duncan Stubbs
