This is the music of the bull fight, and of the civic celebrations in the Spanish community, and is one of the classic types of marches that bands and their audiences have enjoyed for many generations. While this work is in the style of the great professional bands of Spain, it is readily playable by young bands.

Valdemossa is also a place of cultural tradition - composer Frdric Chopin spent several months in this town. The work consists of several parts merging with various characters. Calm, pensive passages alternate with expressive lyrical and rhythmic parts connected by a theme that returns in different variations. Spanish folklore elements--which are embedded in the formal structure of a"classical" rhapsody and represent the southern European atmosphere of Valdemossa--leave their mark on the complete work.
