The Dance Of The Jesters was composed as incidental music for the ballet The Snow Maidens. The ballet is not based on the Hans Christian Andersen story, but on a contemporary Russian fantasy-play Snegourochka. The Snow Maiden, daughter of Father Frost, falls in love with a human, Misgir, and plans to marry him. However, Misgir is already betrothed to Coupava. The Snow Maiden follows him southward to interrupt his wedding, but she falls victim to the warmth of the sun and melts. The Dance is an incredibly lively affair that has stood out from the songs, dances, and choruses of the ballet. It captures the color and zest of Russian folk dance.

In 1880, Edvard Grieg composed twelve song poems by Aasmund Olavsson Vinje. He arranged two of these songs for String Orchestra published under the title of Two Elegiac Melodies, Op. 34. These two deeply meloncholy pieces were titled The Wounded Heart and Last Spring. The latter of these two titles inspired Tohru Takahashi to produce this expressive and sensitive transcription for Concert Band, which will make a fantastic encore piece for any concert.

The composer, arranger and band leader Bert Kaempfert is considered a giant in the field of easy listening music. He wrote songs for world renowned stars such as Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee, Shirley Bassey, Anita Kerr, Frank Sinatra and many others. He created his own unique sound with the Bert Kaempfert Orchestra and had huge international success. His affinity with 'black music' is significant and his fascination with South African sounds led to their incorporation into several of his compositions and arrangements. Roland Kernen has used the following well-known tunes in this medley: Zambesi, African Beat, Wimoweh, Happy Trumpeter and Skokiaan.

Dance Party
For the theatrical show Die pet past ons allemaal! (This Cap Fits Us All!) Peter Kleine Schaars arranged a medley of well-known Dutch children's songs, commissioned by the Dutch Police Orchestra. Bella Italia is a medley of three Neapolitan songs that were made famous and popular by the tenor Mario Lanza. The work opens with the graceful waltz Santa Lucia, which is followed by a Latin-style version of O Sole Mio, a melody that became even more well known when used by Elvis Presley as the basis of the song It's Now or Never. The cheerful Funicul, Funicul ends the medley in 6/8 time. This arrangement for concert band by Roland Kernen will appeal to a broad audience and will leave both the band and the audience in a high-spirited mood.

According to music critic Mark Azarra, Leroy Anderson (1908-1975) was "one of the four best composers of instrumental music in the 20th century, next to George Gershwin, Aaron Copland and Charles Ives". Many of his nostalgic songs such as Sleigh Ride and Blue Tango are firmly embedded in the American popular music culture. In 1945 at the request of Roger Voisin, the principal trumpeter of the Boston Pops Orchestra, Anderson wrote the Trumpeter's Lullaby. This version for concert band by will be a sure winner.
