Adagio Sostenuto - Vincent Persichetti
From Persichetti's many offerings for band, the Adagio Sostenuto movement of his Symphony is a particular favorite for festivals and contests. The second movement of this popular work is one of the most beautiful pieces in the wind band reportoire. This movement is offered as a stand alone publication, so that bands that are not technically ready for the entire piece can still perform this lyrical "gem." Without question, the second movement is technically easier but musically challenging. The piece is well worth the effort.

Hymn to the Sun - Satoshi Yagisawa
Commissioned by Tokai City Wind Music Band for their 40th anniversary celebration. The y gave the composer a difficult theme, that is: For 40 years we did our activity as if we were a family. We had new experiences, welcoming new members, supporting and help ing one another, sometimes having troubles. Through these experiences, the band became our Sun. With the piece, we would like to express our enthusiusm of progress, taking over the early members' will. The composer used to join in a school band, so he stron gly agreed with the theme, but composing is another hard thing to do. He decided to dr op on the band almost everytime he went to Nagoya, and promoted friendship with them, which led him copose this piece.

At the end of 1944, Allied troops invaded the Netherlands from Belgium. Hope and longing for freedom, which now seemed so close, swept through the Netherlands: Operation Market Garden was launched. Huge numbers of paratroopers made the dangerous jump to take over enemy territory on the south side of the Rhine. Fierce fighting and attempts to cross and secure the river resulted in heavy casualties for the liberating forces. Ground support from the south came too late and there was no alternative but to call off Operation Market Garden. What looked like a quick liberation of the Netherlands turned into a long, bitter struggle. To make matters worse, a harsh winter followed: hunger and cold ate away at hope and the prospect of a liberated Netherlands. The Irish singer-songwriter Gilbert O'Sullivan possibly had his greatest success in 1972 with Clair. With its jazzy harmony, this song deviated a little from the spirit of the time. Stefan Schwalgin took the theme of Clair as a starting point, and gave the melody to the alto saxophone. His arrangement fits the tradition of solo works in which it is not so much about technical virtuosity, but rather about the sincerity and charm of the expression. £256.99Clarinet Concerto - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Mozart originally wrote this concerto for a clarinet with an extended lower range, compared to the conventional instrument. As early as 1802, published versions appeared with registral changes, which made the concerto playable on instruments without the extra keys. When producing an edition for the conventional clarinet there are two choices to be made about the 'extra' notes - is it better to maintain the musical line, and hence transpose whole phrases or passages up an octave, rather than single notes, or is the chalumeau tone more important, in which case it may possibly be better to alter one or two notes to keep the correct octave. In this edition Philip Sparke has usually gonefor the former so the 'sequences' make musical sense, but have taken the second option in some places. This fantastic work will prove popular with soloist, band and audience alike.
