    Vr Flotta - Ivar Widner

    One of the really great Swedish Marches is Our Fleet which he wrote in 1917 as op. 11. It was composed in Goden as Military March When Widner became conductor of the Royal Swedish Navy Band in Stockholm, he changed the title to Our Fleet.

    Chips In A Bag - Leslie Searle

    This is a stirring, skilful transfer of pop-style music for youth wind band. The original composition can he performed by smaller bands: the larger score is for additional Instruments. Leslie Searle came to Germany in 1965 as a Saxophonist in the Band of the Royal Air Force. He has composed and made arrangements of music by Kurt Edelhagen among others, and has played in numerous bands. He is now director of a private music school in Remscheid.

    Rondeau Royale - Mark Barnard

    Rondeau Royale was carefully composed to address the needs of both advancing and developing band students. The melody, countermelody and accompaniment include varied articulations as well as changes in dynamics and texture. Its written in a rondo form where, after the introduction, the main theme is stated, followed by short episodes that change the texture and character of the piece. The title Rondeau Royale takes on the French spelling, essentially translating as a "royal" or "regal" rondo.

    The 'Jupiter Hymn' comes from the fourth movement ,"Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity" from the orchestral suite "THE PLANETS" by the English composer Gustav HOLST (l874 - 1934), written between 1914 and 1917. 'The Planets" was premiered in 1918 by Sir Adrian Boult and the Royal Philharmonic Society and remains one of the most colourful examples of our 20th-century orchestral literature. The Hymn is very suitable to start your concert program; for more solemn occasions, the alternative ending may be used.

    The King's March - Søren Hyldgaard

    This lively new work, expertly arranged by Johan de Meij, is taken from the soundtrack of the recently released animated film Till Eulenspiegel. In writing the music for the film the composer, Sren Hyldgaard, said: "Writing music for an animated adventure romp like Till Eulenspiegel is about as much fun as I can imagine having as a composer.While extremely challenging on the timing and hitting-the-action side, the furious universe of the animated adventure genre is as much an inspiration as it is an obstacle." The King's March from Till Eulenspiegel captures the high spirits of the film itself with the arrival of the extravagant entourage containing the royal carriage with all itsPomp and Circumstance.

    Prince of Denmark's March - Jeremiah Clarke

    Jeremiah Clarke (c. 1674-1707) belongs to the generation of English composers following that of Henry Purcell. Not much is known about his early life, but by 1685 he was a chorister of the Chapel Royal, a group of liturgical musicians attached to the court. He held the post of organist at Winchester College from 1692 but later returned to London as Master of the Choristers at St Paul's Cathedral. The Prince of Denmark's March is perhaps his best-known work and was originally written for harpsichord, although Clarke later included it in a collection of pieces for wind instruments.

    Friends of Freedom - Karel Deseure

    This work by the young Belgian composer Karel Deseure was written for the Koninklijke Harmonie (Royal Concert Band) De Wijngaard Vrijheidsvrienden from Wijnegem, Belgium. Following an opening fanfare, a brilliant allegro is heard, featuring great alternating rhythms and virtuoso melodies. At the end, the opening theme recurs, this time with a wider instrumentation. This composition is suitable as an overture or contest piece.
