£107.95SPECTRUM (Prestige Concert Band Set) - Vinter, Gilbert - Newton, Rodney
Score and Parts. SPECTRUM. This work caused much consternation when it was used as the brass band test piece at the 1969 British Open Competition. The score is an uncompromising one and as colourful as its title suggests. The various episodes of the work are each named after a colour from the spectrum - Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Purple (changed from Violet when Vinter became conscious of his failing health). It is a piece of violent mood swings challenging all sections of the band. Many consider this to be the finest of Vinter's small output for band. The variation form is one of the oldest and most fundamental forms of musical technique. Franco Cesarini has chosen the well known French folk melody, Sur le pont d'Avignon as the basis for this piece. The piece begins with a short introduction followed by the exposition and ten lively and contrasting variations. The final reminder of the main theme also included references to the famous French nursery songs J'ai du bon tabac and Alouette, which bring the work to an expressive and brilliant close.Duration7:00

West Highlands Sojourn
Inspired by this popular composer's journey through the western hill country of England and Wales, this delightful piece borrows from folk melodies he heard on a river near the Scottish border. The three contrasting sections of the piece make it equally suitable for concert or contest use and Sheldon's artful scoring makes this one of the nicest pieces we have heard. Splendid Music!

Program NotesMajor Joy Webb has a unique and special gift for writing songs that achieve massive popularity, both for the purity of their musical integrity and for the depth of their poetic and literal strength. One of the members of The Salvation Army's 1960s phenomenon "The Joystrings," Joy Webb has a string of popular songs to her name, several of which contributed to the charts successes of enjoyed by the group. In more recent years, many of her tunes have found their why into instrumental repertoire.A prime example of Joy's remarkable gifting is her beautiful Share My Yoke. Although the deeply spiritual words of Share My Yoke may be unfamiliar to some, the sheer beauty of the melody is without doubt. The chorus is reproduced here to offer an insight into the song's meaning:Your slightest movement I will feel and understand.Share my yoke, and come the way that I must go,In our togetherness my peace you'll know.The world beholding us will see it's so.Calling for real sensitivity both from soloist and accompanying group, this is an extremely rewarding piece to play - and a moving listening experience for the audience.The arranger, Ivor Bosanko, who lives in California following retirement from the post of Territorial Music Director in The Salvation Army's USA Western Territory, is himself a respected songwriter, composer and arranger. He has produced this wonderfully sensitive and evocative arrangement of the song for cornet soloist and band. Already widely used and recorded in its original brass band form, this arrangement for concert band will undoubtedly be a useful and valuable addition to repertoire.

"Remembering" was premiered on May 18, 2023 and written in loving memory of three students who attended J.J. Pearce High School (Richardson, Texas), and one teacher, all who passed away tragically. The rigaudon is a French Baroque dance in a lively duple meter. Rhythmically simple with a few syncopated lines, this short composition is the perfect introduction to this style. With varying dynamics, this is an excellent piece for developing a lighter playing style while also focusing on listening, articulations, and musical phrasing with repeats. Playable by as few as one on a part, this also works well for smaller bands with limited instrumentation.

The Seven Summits are the highest mountains of each of the seven continents. Using the concept of the summits, this piece explores the rush of adrenaline, the pounding of the heart, and the sheer joy of being one with nature. The middle slower section represents the pitfalls and difficulties of climbing the mountains, demonstrated by the several accidentals and mature chordal progressions. Finally, the end brings the climber's triumphant return to base camp! 1st trumpet's highest note is G.
