£110.00CURTAIN CALL (Concert Band) - Woolfenden, Guy
Includes:Solemn MarchValse TristeFinaleThe thematic material for the first movement, Solemn March, started life as a coronation procession in Trevor Nunn's legendary production of The Revenger's Tragedy, a notorious Jacobean blood and guts play by Cyril Tourneur. Trevor Nunn was also the director of a much loved production of All's Well That Ends Well, starring Dame Peggy Ashcroft and Harriet Walter, from which the Valse Triste comes, featuring a haunting melody tailor-made for the oboe. The last movement, Finale, is a reworking of the curtain call music for Bill Alexander's amazing production of Richard III starring Antony Sher, who memorably played the role on crutches.

Radetzky-Marsch, Op. 228 - Johann Strauss Sr.
Presented for the first time in August 1848 in Vienna, Johann Strauss Sr's Radetzky-Marsch is one of the most famous marches ever composed, dedicated to Field Marshal Joseph Radetzky von Radetz. Strauss was commissioned to write it to commemorate Radetzky's victory in the battle of Custoza.Next to the waltz An der schnen blauen Donau - On the beautiful blue Danube - by Johann Strauss Jr, the Radetzky-Marsch has assumed the role of 'unofficial' Austrian anthem over time. When it was performed for the first time in front of officers, these began to beat their hands and feet to the rhythm of the music, giving life to a tradition often seen in many concert halls when the march is performed live. The Vienna Philharmonic always performs the march as the final piece in the famous New Year's Concert.

£79.99Beyond the Stars (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Curnow, James
Based on the traditional American shaped-note melody The Promised Land (first published in the 1800's), Beyond the Stars captures the spirit of the early American church musicians who voiced their enthusiasm for life and the freedom of worship through both vocal and instrumental music. The music features several mini-variations wrapped up in four large variations (Fast, Fast, Slow, Fast-recapitulation). The composer has created new thematic material for each variation by excerpting motifs from three separate phrases of the original shaped-note melody.
