£149.40O Helga natt - Adolphe Charles Adam
O Holy Night is a very well-known Christmas carol. The origin of the carol is French beginning with the words: "Minuit! Chrtiens, c'est l'heure solennelle". It is about the birth of Jesus and was written in 1843 by a wine merchant and poet by the name of Placide Cappeau (1808 77). He turned to the composer Adolphe Adam (1803 56) and asked him to write a suitable melody. The result was brilliant and the carol was premiered in Cappeau's home town Roquemaure in 1847 by the opera singer Emily Laurey. Based on Cappeau's French text, the English version was written in 1855 by an American Unitarian (Calvinist) minister by the name of John Sullivan Dwight (1813 93). Adolphe Adamwas the son of the pianist and composer Louis Adam (1758 1848), who did not want his son to follow in his foot-steps as a musician. However, Adolphe wanted otherwise, and already at the age of 17 he was accepted to study at the music conservatoire in Paris. He was a student under Franois Adrien Bo eldieu and composed several comical operas that became successful. After the July-revolution 1830 Adam moved to London. He worked for a couple of years before returning to Paris, where he founded a new opera house in 1847, the Th tre national. After the revolution in 1848 it had to close and Adam was ruined, why he had to go back to composing. In 1856 he concluded the ballet Le Corsaire, which together with the ballet Giselle are his most performed works today.

£84.99Hungarian Rondo - Árpád Balázs
The Hungarian Rondo by rpd Balzs is cheerful, good-humoured music, a finely formed work crafted withgreat professional skill. Its structure is clear: the double recurrence of the rondo theme results in a five-part form. The two episodes differ in character. The first consists of increasingly densely woven imitations that chase eachother playfully, the second evokes the mood of bagpipe tunes. In the latter, above the melody moving evenly in crotchets in the middle parts a pastel-tinted cloud of woodwind notes floats upwards, while the sound is extended downwards by the deep-toned brass stepping lower by semitones. A brilliant device by the composer! In thecourse of its repeats the rondo theme appears more and more richly garbed, particularly the sparkling semiquavers of the woodwind make it ever more decorative. The Hungarian Rondo is the kind of music that drives your cares away.

Buzzing Polka, composed in 1993, is one of the earliest compositions by Lszl Dubrovay (*1943) for concert band, which has become a huge success due to use of special timbres and effects which had been unexploited in the genre earlier. Already the title tells that classical musical values and surprising moments of special brass instrument techniques can be both found in the work. Every second in the striking character piece is made interesting by the excellent balance between the pillar-like harmonies enriched by distant overtones and horizontal melody formation. Performing Buzzing Polka is a great opportunity for conveying the message and values of the music of the 20th and 21st centuries through the contrast between classical melodies and new ways of instrumentation.

Fairy Tail Suite - Tsutomu Tajima
This work was complete in January 2013 to commemoration the 50th anniversary of the Iwate Prefecture Band Association. Conditions at the request were as follows:1: Does not have to be particularly relating to Iwate. It should be something that would be widely familiar to the whole country. 2: Should suit the contest piece requirements. 3: Must be a song that can be used at a graduation ceremony for student procession and recessional.4: Must include vocal parts with a beautiful melody.5: Must be a march.6: Must be a song that would be loved by many.They are difficult requests. I hope to satisfy at least one of them.We selected Yanagida Kunio's book "Tono Monogatari" as the cornerstone of the work, chose four stories that fit the image, and stuck close to the source of the story. Then, "prelude music" was added, making it a suite consisting of five movements.I. "Prelude" What kind of story will it be? An exciting opening expresses such a feeling.II. "Zashikiwarashi" Spirit that brings good fortune and wealth. It appears at midnight and makes mischief, something silly, not serious. Zashikiwarashi moves quickly, dances, plays its games, hiding and reappearing often. These characteristics are considered cute and the music depicts such a mischievous Zashikiwasi.III. "Oshirasama" A girl and her horse love each other. Her father forbids this, and kills the horse. The beautiful daughter clings to the horse and cries. Eventually, the daughter and the horse rise to heaven, slowly and gradually, remembering former happy days. The music captures this ascension to heaven.IV. "Yamanba (Mountain witch)" Run away, run away, its chasing, still chasing. Run away, and still chasing. The girls hides. Yamanba searches. It keeps chasing, endlessly, following her everywhere. Chasing, chasing, and finally... Seriously and comically depicting the chase situation in fugue style.V. "Kappa" Staring into the distance. It looks gallant. What is it looking at? Staring beyond the mountain? Perhaps it is longing for hope and happiness. This is an homage, a march, and cheering song for Kappa who never gives up and embraces dreams and hope.It is my wish that many people become familiar with this song.(2013.3.31 Tsushima Tashima)

The Wind Rises - Joe Hisaishi
This beautiful, lyrical melody is so colorful in the film, without having an imposing image. "The Wind Rises" (2013) does not dominate the visual, and perhaps is an ideal form of film music considering this is director Miyazaki's final production. Chamber ensembles with solos and strings are frequently used in the soundtrack, so the sound is mellow and soft. As you listen more and more, you still recognize the tradition of Ghibli music.When I arrange, I try not to visualize the image of a film. I may think of characters and story line but is it important to write music that alone is appealing and fascinating. Trying not to "overstate" the film is not needed here. If you can bring out the most appealing parts of the soundtrack, excess can be forgiven. Of course, I have not changed the musical elements of the original.I asked Mr. Tomoki Ubata (band director at Ina Gakuen Sr. High School) whom I have worked with numerous times to assist with layout. He came up with a heartwarming medley with two main parts; leading boy Jiro's gift for aeronautical design and his romance with the heroine, Natsuko.The following themes are contained in the arrangement:1. Nahoko (A Rainbow) Beginning2. Caproni (An Aeronautical Designer's Dream) C3. A Journey (An Encounter at Karuizawa) H4. The Falcon I5. Prototype 8 N6. Jalan-jalan was inspired by the music of Bali, Indonesia based upon its unique melodies, modes and rhythms. As part of the independent archipelago "Ryukyu", Okinawa (southernmost Japan) had an active exchange with Bali that included cultural and musical influences. Jalan-jalan means "walkabout" or "walking journey" in Indonesian. It describes a walk in the so-called Isle of the Gods, encountering Bali's beautiful scenery and daily life. Its four themes include "Dawn," "Morning Market," "Beach in Early Afternoon" and "Kecak Dance (a form of Balinese dance and music drama, performed primarily by men) in Torchlight."An imposing pesante introduction will properly establish this song's mood. Boldly balance winds and percussion to the prominent timpani solo. At Allegro Vivo, observe the lighter abbreviated scoring and balance melody/countermelody at E. Melodies are elongated at the Grazioso, and tenor/bass rhythm figures need enough separation to be felt. The urgent-feeling Presto must initially be reserved except for the percussive "slaps"; same thing again at O. The daunting rhythmic figure at Q is actually a chattering effect-combine the two elements to teach continuity and placement. Don't "over blow" the ending, but continue to emphasize unique rhythmic elements.(Shin'ya Takahashi)

A graceful choral then captures the magnificent setting of the Mayan world. After a folk melody for the populace, the agitated scene of a sacrificial ceremony is portrayed. The regal theme appears again in the coda, concluding in brilliance. This great civilization vanished in 10 A.D., leaving only remnants of a remarkably prosperous world. Thousands of ruins large and small remain locked in a dense world of jungle, with huge crumbled cities having lain forgotten for eight centuries.II. Glorious ruins still ariseII characterizes this civilization from glory, to destruction, to the present with its buried ruins. To begin, stone cities wait silently cloaked in jungle, steadfastly eluding discovery. As time passes slowly, the music reflects back to the glory of the Maya. Though wishing to turn back the hands of time for this incredible civilization, its fate and the gravity of its loss are carried forward in the profound silence of eternal loss. Commissioned by Japan's Central Air Self Defense Force BandWhen I received this commission, I thought of a regular piece for wind band, but as my preparations continued I heard so much about the band's outstanding trumpeter Kenichi Kurisu that I ended up writing a concerto for him. The Self Defense Force audience includes those without much chance to otherwise hear live music. With that in mind I realized I also had the challenge of creating a melody that was compelling.Using the classical sonata as a model I made this song with simple movements and included a signature chorus in the middle section. Although this piece is performed with band, a version for piano accompaniment was created by pianist Orimo Manabu for the 20th Anniversary of "The Trumpet Concert."This edition of Trumpet Concerto was offered for an American Premier at the 2013 Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic, Robert Sullivan soloist with the Kagoshima Joho High School Wind Orchestra.(Satoshi Yagisawa)
