Centennial Celebration (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - De Haan, Jacob

These days, many concert bands celebrate their centenary - this provided a good reason to compose the Centennial Celebration. This work has a festive, harmonious and optimistic vibe. A joyful introduction is followed by a lyrical passage with an enticing melody, after which the same theme can be heard in a pop style variation. Next is a kind of trio with a melody that will linger in your mind. Lively sounds bring us back to the lyrical main theme once more, but this time exuberant, like a pop ballad. Finally, we hear the festive sounds of the introduction again, now as a lustrous conclusion.Duration: 5.15

Norsk Kunstnerkarneval Op.14 (Norwegian Artists' Carnival Op.14) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Svendsen, Johan S. - Nordhagen, Stig

This well-known work was composed in Christiania in 1874 for a burlesque Carnival in Kunstnerforeningen. An early title for the work was Bryllup paa Dovre. The manuscript score and parts at The National Library in Oslo of the early version with this title have much more music than the version printed by C.F. Peters, Leipzig in 1881. The form in this first version was ABA with an additional trio part that later were discarded. In the trio Svendsen used the melody Saeterreisen (Os har gjort kva gjeras skulle) from Lindeman's collection of Norwegian Folk Tunes. (Vol. I/115). In the A-part a wedding tune (Bruraslaatten) from Sogn is used (Lindeman Vol. I/476). The Carnival's literary theme was the connection between the cold north and the warm south. Musically the south is represented in Svendsen's music by Raffaele Sacoo's melody from 1835, Te voglio bene assai.I believe that if Norwegian quality music from this period is going to be performed, it must at least be available. There must be editions for modern instrumentations with full scores. I do this as my contribution to expand and enrich the repertoire for Concert Bands.- Stig Nordhagen

S.O.S. (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Kjaernes, Bjorn Morten

When the publisher asked me to make an arrangement of an ABBA tune, S.O.S. was the first song I thought of. Its introduction and melody are well suited to play for Wind Band. Admittedly, the key had to be shifted to make it sound good for this instrumentation. To me, this is nostalgia, while for others, the Mamma Mia movie/show will be what they associate with this wonderful song. Apart from a few medleys, few of ABBA's songs are available to Wind Band. So, it was very fun to work on this classic. The arrangement is made quite simply to fit many sizes of bands. Technically, it is also relatively simple both in range and rhythm. As you can see, there are many ways to adjust this arrangement to your own ensemble. Bring out melody lines and the bassline, and a lot is done. If needed, simplify to make it sound nice.Get creative and have fun!- Bjorn Morten KjaernesDuration: 3.30

Journey's End (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Hodges, Steve

Upon completion of an activity, an event, or other meaningful experiences, there is a time for reflection for what has been accomplished and what is to follow. This lyrical piece features a memorable melody that is presented by all sections of the band. These reflective presentations lead into a slightly faster minor section indicating the anticipation of plans for the future. The final presentation of the melody indicates a positive feeling of accomplishment and features a moving countermelody by the woodwinds leading to a quiet, contemplative ending. Duration: 2.45

Following a stirring acceleration, she cuts off their tails in accordance with the lyrics of the songThis work, with its humorous touch, will be a welcome contribution to the expansion of interesting repertoire for the lower divisions.Duration: 6.45

Mercury Rising (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip

Mercury Rising was commissioned by sinfonisches blasorchester wehdel and its conductor Thomas Ratzek, to celebrate their 50th anniversary in 2018. They premiered this piece in their half-century concert on 2nd November 2018 in the Bremerhaven Stadttheater in Germany. Designed as a virtuosic and lively opener, Mercury Rising opens with nervous energy and driving, syncopated rhythms in a blaze of colour. The horns and saxophones then introduce a broad melody, which the trumpets subsequently take up after a change of tonality. A quieter moment introduces a distant fanfare on muted horns over bubbling semiquavers in the low clarinets. This is interrupted by a passionate tenor melody but soon returns on the full brass section, accompanied by echoes of the opening woodwind figuration, and is extended to bring the piece to a triumphant close. The Lions March (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Buckley, Robert

This rousing march, based on a traditional melody, has been adopted by the Lions Clubs International as their theme song. The delightfully catchy melody explodes with energy and effervescence. With effective orchestration and a newly composed trio, this march has a sound much more impressive and advanced than its grade level would suggest.

Nedslatt, Sorgemarsj (Dead End, Funeral March) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Olsen Vadsten, Oystein

An addition to the composer's series of folk music inspired pieces, has the slightly condescending title "Dead End". The piece is a funeral march and so also written for an occasion, where this style of music was a natural inspiration. It is built on a drum ostinato, which is followed by a melody in Norwegian folk music style. The repetitions in the melody line and rhythm, create a hypnotic effect, leaving us in a special state of mind, alternating between deep sorrow, bottomless despair and grateful gratitude. The piece has proven to be effective, both as a concert opener and as the last piece in a concert. Duration: 6.10

Watermelon Sugar (Flexible Ensemble - Score and Parts) - Sheppard, Mike

Watermelon Sugar was the summer hit of the year 2020. It is a song by the British singer-songwriter Harry Styles, who felt inspired by the title of the American novel In Watermelon Sugar (1968) by Richard Brautigan. The melody of the chorus had already taken form during 'Live on Tour', the debut tour that Styles embarked on in September 2017, finishing in July the following year. On a free day, Harry and his band went to The Cave Studio in Nashville, where they created the chorus melody. It is said that the song is about Styles' ex-girlfriend Camille Rowe. Mike Sheppard arranged this catchy tune for a flexible (six-part) ensemble as a lasting memory of the extraordinary year 2020. Duration: 3.00
