Mother Earth (Fanfare) - David Maslanka
Composer David Maslanka brings a short 3 minute fanfare into existance based on ispiration from a prayer by St. Francis of Assisi. Often hgh school bands do not get the opportunity to perform music by this important composer due to their length and difficulty, but this piece is well within the reach of many high school groups. Certainly it will be a standard in the reportoire.

£224.50Give Us This Day - David Maslanka
A short, two-movement symphony by the masterful David Maslanka, that demonstrates once again the rich possibilities of the wind band in the hands of a composer who understands the creative potential of the medium. The slow and richly scored opening movement makes especially fine use of an expanded percussion section, triadic harmony and melodies with the flavor of an incantation. The second movement is a driving Allegro with a stern, striding C minor theme that dominates the movement until the coda, which ends the piece with a slow, heaven-storming chorale. Despite the title (from The Lord's Prayer), the composer claims a Buddhist inspiration for his piece.

£104.99The Source - Bert Appermont
At the heart of this piece are several elements that inspired the composer. First of all: nature, infinite and inexhaustible, giving life and power, something bigger than humans can grasp. The composer used the Gregorian hymn 'Veni Creator Spiritus' as a leitmotiv to reflect this idea. A second element was the passing of David Maslanka, a dear friend of the composer, honoured in the work by a few musical 'echoes'. At the end of the work, there is a passage for optional choir in different possible settings. The Source was commissioned by the Banda Giovanlie Regionale ANBIMA FVG, Italy, and is an impressive, stirring and moving piece of music.

£308.50Morning Star - David Maslanka
Morning Star was commissioned by the conductor of the Grand Ledge, Michigan High School Wind Symphony, Michael Kaufman, to celebrate the opening of the school's new concert hall. It was premiered by the students in May of 1997. Morning Star is a happy piece about beginnings: the dawning of a new day, the opening of a new hall, the beginning of adult life for the young people who premiered the piece, and for those who are playing it now.

Heart Songs - David Maslanka
Heart Songs, another stunning piece by one of the most important writers of music for wind ensemble and band, takes its title from the image of the tree of life being "watered" by the blood of the heart. Like all of Maslanka's music, it is deeply felt and reflective in nature. The three movements of this suite embrace a variety of serious moods, movements two and three use familiar Bach chorales as the basis for unusually rich and original band writing at the highest musical level. Duration: 16'

£142.00In Memoriam
David Maslanka's In Memoriam is a deeply moving tribute built on the cherished hymn "If You But Trust in God to Guide You." Commissioned in honor of Susan Eck Lichtenwalter, the work unfolds from a bold, declarative opening into a sweeping fantasia filled with powerful contrasts--intensity, tenderness, struggle, and ultimately, serenity. Maslanka's masterful variations on the chorale create a musical journey that resonates long after the final quiet measures. An ideal centerpiece for concerts of reflection, remembrance, or spiritual significance.

£280.00A Child's Garden of Dreams
David Maslanka's A Child's Garden of Dreams for Wind Ensemble, written in 1981, takes inspiration from the writings of Carl Jung, specifically the dreams recounted in Man And His Symbols. Five of the twelve dreams recounted by Jung serve as motifs and titles for the five movements of this composition: 1. There is a desert on the moon where the dreamer sinks so deeply in to the ground that she reaches hell; 2. A drunken woman falls into the water and comes out renewed and sober; 3. A horde of small animals frightens the dreamer. The animals increase to a tremendous size, and one of them devours the little girl; 4. A drop of water is seen as it appears when looked at through a microscope. The girl sees that the drop is full of tree branches. This portrays the origin of the world; and 5. An ascent into heaven where pagan dances are being celebrated; and a descent into hell, where angels are doing good deeds. A Child's Garden of Dreams is a pillar of the standard wind ensemble canon, performerd hundreds of times by a variety of professional and collegiate ensembles and recorded on several critically acclaimed albums. Maslanka has also set the work for full orchestra (C672).
