£38.20Under the Double Eagle - J.F. Wagner
The Austrian military bandmaster Josef Franz Wagner (1856-1908) used to be called the 'Austrian March King'. He wrote some 400 compositions, 250 of which have been published. Among his well-known marches we mention 'Tiroler Holzhacker Buab'n', 'Erzherzog Johann Jodler', 'Wiener Brger', '47er Regimentsmarsch' and, of course, 'Unter dem Doppeladler' (Under the Double Eagle) opus 19. The title of this immortal march refers to the double eagle in the coat of arms of the Austro-Hungarian double monarchy. The march became so popular that it was recorded thrice by the Sousa-band before J.F.Wagner died at the age of 52. It became the official regimental march of the 1st Austrian Artillery Regiment Number 2.

Molenaar Edition has published several beautiful marches by the American composer Paul Yoder (1908-1990) such as 'Holland Brass', 'Brass in Action' and this sparkling march 'Bells of Brass' with its really fine tunes and rhythms. This march has been published previously as number 494 in Molenaar's series 'March Triumphs'. A quarter of a century later this march did anything but lose its vitality and charm.

The popular Toscan tourist attraction undoubtedly deserves this homage.

Adolf Scherzer was military bandmaster with the 7th Bavarian Infantry Regiment at Ingolstadt from 1849 to 1864. His Bayerischer Defilier Marsch (Bavarian Parade March), dating from the second half of the nineteenth century, is one of the most popular German marches of all times. The fanfarelike trumpet calls backed by chromatic woodwind passages give this solemn march its quite original character. Willy Hautvast's fine arrangement for the modern wind band makes this legendary march finally available to all our wind bands.

The march "Honour to the Veterans" was the composers third composition ever. He sent this march to Kjell Martinsen, who was the conductor of The Kings Guards Band in Norway. He liked the march so much that it was included on the CD which was releasedin connection with the bands 150 years anniversary.The march is not very difficult. There is a variety of melody lines in the march that differs from many other marches, especially the piccolo flute solo makes it a little bit special. Themarch is also playable for bands lacking a piccolo flute player, because the melody line in this part of the march is well taken care of.
