Right from the outset until the very end, the speed, energy and drive of the tuneful music is palpable. It's abundantly clear why the title Seatbelts Fastened! was chosen: just like an airplane, this music takes off and neither tempo nor intensity are lost throughout the flight. Descending and ascending scales characterise the most important thematic material and the music explores a variety of different registers through Van der Roost utilising a great deal of different tonalities and metres. £89.99Centennial Prelude (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Van der Roost, Jan
This short opening music was composed on commission of the symphonic band of Jan Van der Roost's village (= Kontich near Antwerp / Belgium). In 1991, this community band celebrated its 100th anniversary. After composing commissioned pieces from different countries (even from Japan), this was the most 'near' commission he ever received indeed! It is a short but varied piece, featuring all sections of the band. After a short introduction, played by the brass instruments, a crisp rhythm starts and boxes the main theme. After a second theme, played by brass and percussion, a short melodical passage brings some 'rest'. At the end, the fanfare of the introduction reoccurs. Although this "Centennial Prelude" isn't a really demanding piece, it sounds colourful and energetic. It has been recorded on CD by the band of the 'Royal Dutch Airforce' and the 'Desford Colliery Brass band'.Duration: 3:30

Arsenal was composed for the 50th anniversary of the 'Harmonie van het Spoorwegarsenaal' [railroad arsenal], based in Mechelen (Belgium). Rather a stately concert march, it has beautiful themes and a broad melody in the trio. It waspremiered in the Mechelen Cultural Center on the 11th of May 1996 during the solemn ceremony, opening the anniversary year and conducted by the composer. In the meantime, Arsenal has been recorded several times by such renowed performers likethe Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra, the Black Dyke BB etc.

Colourfully and effectfully instrumentated, this piece speeds towards its finale without any tempo changes. This solemn overture was written for concert band to commemorate the 20th Festival Bandistico Besana in Brianza for 2024. This multifaceted work features three movements: the serene and solemn Corale solenne, which is then followed by Danza con eleganza, in which alternating changes of time signature form a jaunty and also somewhat whimsical whole. The Finale trionfale is thematically based on the opening chorale, though now in a festive guise. Frequent modulations convey the melodies and themes in various keys, resulting in a wonderful harmonic colourfulness. Viva Besana, viva la musica!

The Greek word 'hypernikon' roughly translates as 'More Than Conquerors', the motto of Gordon College in Wenham, Massachusetts the commissioner of this piece. The work is inspired by David Rox's very own name the first two letters of his name, D and A, sets the first theme is in D major, with these notes being the tonic and dominant of the scale. After the stately intrada, the tempo accelerates and the festive feel of the march emerges. The trio melody serves as a beautiful contrast before finally ending with the opening theme in a grand tutti.

This piece was written to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the Takayama Wind Orchestra, who also commissioned it. The historic city of Takayama draws numerous visitors from home and abroad, not just to see its well-preserved old houses and buildings but also because every year several historic processions take place, with beautiful floats. When these ride through the city, age-old melodies are heard played on wooden flutes, accompanied by muted drums. This image is evoked at the beginning of the work, followed by an archaic sounding melody in a typically Japanese pentatonic sequence, that develops throughout. In this challenging piece Eastern and Western influences alternate,creating a sensational and overwhelming musical effect!
