The well-known chorale Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland (Let the Earth Now Praise the Lord) was written by Martin Luther in 1524 and derives from a translation of a hymn from the 4th century before Christ. The melody was composed by JohannWalter, however Johann Sebastian Bach used it as a basis for many cantatas. This arrangement by Jacob de Haan gives your band the chance to perform an attractive version of this beautiful chorale.

En 1524, Martin Luther publiait son premier recueil de cantiques, dont est extrait son magnifi que choral Aus tiefer Not schrei ich zu dir (Du fond de l'abme, je t'invoque, o ternel) d'aprs le Psaume 130 (De profundis). En 1724, Jean-Sbastien Bach composait une cantate, fonde sur le choral du mme nom de Martin Luther. Pour raliser cet arrangement pour Orchestre d'Harmonie, Jacob de Haan s'est particulirement inspir de l'oeuvre de Bach. Aus tiefer Not est une prcieuse contribution au rpertoire sacr.

Viterbo shares its name with a province located in the Latium region of Italy. Its landscape, a mixture of fl atland, rolling hills and lakes, contains many artefacts of the Roman Empire as well as the preceding Etruscancivilization. Giacomo da Lentini was a 13th century Italian poet who was a notary at the court of the Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II and is said to have invented the sonnet. Lentini's Ballad is based on the famous poem 'Amor un desio che ven da core' (Love is a desire that comes from the heart). It sounds great as an instrumental work, but there is also an option for a vocal version using the Italian lyrics of the poem, making the arrangement even more special!

Jacob de Haan begins his arrangement of the well-known hymn Allein Gott in der Hh' sei Ehr (All Glory Be to God on High) with a quotation from his own Missa Katharina, a mass for choir, soprano, and band. To this melody he sets the Latin text from the last part of the Gloria. The chorale is then heard after an interlude and can, at the director's discretion, be accompanied by the choir singing in either German or English. A perfect work for church concerts.
