The piece opens with a sumptuous celebratory fanfare dominated by the brass section. In the following Allegro, the woodwind instruments weave their graceful melodious plots, with occasional intense interruptions by the brass section. The piece continues with Valzers where the initial melancholic mood set by the woodwind is superseded by the brass section harkening back to modal musical mode before, once more, being taken up by the woodwind instruments. The piece closes with a gently expressive Andante. The gentle delicacy of this section moves to a moderate Allegro featuring a running dance with light-hearted irregular rhythm. The return to the opening fanfare brings us back to the anniversary celebrations of the Band and a solemn final sequence to the composition. The debut performance took place under the direction of the composer at the Gala Concert on March 28, 2009.

Later it was incorporated into the mass with alternating sung and spoken text, reflecting the mood of the liturgy. Jacob de Haan's Introitus, in which he has arranged the hymns Puer natus est nobis and Lobt Gott, Ihr Christen alle gleich, is a wonderful introduction to the Christmas season and can be performed with any instrumental combination with mixed choir and organ ad libitum.

The piece opens with a lively graceful theme depicting the light and good-natured mood that characterizes the two children playing. Under orders from General George Washington at the height of the Revolutionary War, a spy ring was organised for the purpose of providing critical information on the movement of British forces in the New York area. This dynamic work for band hints at the sense of danger and intrigue at the heart of this operation. The opening strains are propelled by an underlying rhythmic layer with flashes of colour from the winds and percussion. A reflective middle section features soloistic passages with lush harmonies, and offers a calming mood before the fast tempo returns for the dynamic finish.Duration: 7:45

This vivacious programme number was written for Barnaby (more often known as Barney), Simba's (see At The 'Splash' with Sim) predecessor in the composer's Golden Retriever succession. He was a very laid back and happy soul, not the brightest-ever retriever, but with the potential for a little mischief when the mood took him. It was written with the intention of being eminently playable so both the range and the technical demands are carefully controlled and the scoring is designed to make the music sound strong with a band of less experienced players.
