Blaydon Races (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Brand, Michael

Blaydon, near Newcastle upon Tyne in the north-east of England, was for many years the scene of holiday races and the basis for a good time enjoyed by all! Many of those going to the races called into the inns for refreshment as they made their happy way, singing their songs, including the famous Blaydon Races. Brand, Michaels arrangement is somewhat tongue-in-cheek as it begins with the accompaniment and leaves audiences guessing the whereabouts of the tune. The triangle part is a feature throughout, and many provide some scope for amusement during performance.

Windfall (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Fraser, Bruce

Windfall should be taken at a steady march tempo, with full note values and is a useful piece for developing a good band sound. Dynamic changes are particularly important to avoid monotony in the overall sound and young players are introduced to the concept of D.C. al fine.Titles in the Prelude Series are specifically scored for bands with few, if any, bass instruments but will sound well on larger ensembles. The bass line is playable by any combination of bass clarinet, bassoon, baritone saxophone, trombone, euphonium or tuba; in the event that none of these is available, the part for trombone/euphonium (B flat TC) can be played by tenor saxophone. The tuned percussion part is entirely optional and can be played by any available instrument(s). Each piece also includes a preliminary exercise. This is always in the same key as the accompanying piece and consists of a scale and chord progression that can be used for improving ensemble, balance, intonation and instrumental facility by changing tempo, articulation and dynamics.Duration: 3:00

Keep the Faith - Score and Parts - Duncan Stubbs

Program NotesKeep the Faith originally started as a personal tribute to my late mother. Not long after writing the opening ideas I was approached to write music to accompany a rendition of the poem "We Will Keep the Faith" by Moina Michael for performance as part of the 100th Anniversary of the start og World War I. The appropriateness of the music already written and the sentiment behind both concepts was a coincidence too good to overlook. Rarely sentimental and always practical I feel sure my mum would be delighted that the music she originally inspired was being used to portray a much wider universal message of remembrance.Whether performed with or without the poem a fully sustained sound should always be aimed for. The 'bugle' call at bar 20 and again at bar 76 should reflect a distant call across the trenches, the cornet remaining prominent over the upper woodwind. The tempo indication is a guide only and allowance must be made for the acoustic in which the piece is performed. The music must always flow, but appropriate rubato should be freely used together with appropriate tenuto in the middle of phrases.- Duncan Stubbs

    6-Note Santa

This arrangement of Jolly Old Saint Nicholas is perfect for the beginning band winter concert. Based on the first 6 notes of the concert Bb scale, the scoring ensures every instrument gets a chance to play the rhythmically simple melody. The only eighth notes appear in the snare drum part. Written with the composer's typical expertise for a great sounding and easy-to-put together composition, try this for a jolly good time.

    Courage - Harold Bennett

Courage March is one of the most popular of the Harold Bennett marches. It is now presented here in a flexible instrumentation edition for bands with instrumentation needs. Tuneful and very fun to play, Courage March will make every band sound their best, and is a good choice for a smaller group to use for contest warm-up. Check out the excerpted version of the recording to see how well the five-part scoring really works.

The Golden Knights - Alice Gomez

Written as a tribute to the Army Paratrooper team, this tuneful, mid-tempo march contains interesting parts for each section, with a short drum break before the trio that makes the piece a good choice for a little feature for the percussion section as well.

    Funky Hedde - Torstein Aagaard-Nilsen

A good friend of mine, trombonist and professor Jesper Juul Windahl commissioned me a trombone quartet. I then wrote Four Nordic Folk Pops. The last of the four is a Norwegian tune called Havard Hedde in a funky version. Then I made a brass quintet version for Lofoten Brass Quintet for a their Australia tour. The trombonist in the quintet asked me for a brass band version to be used in an entertainment contest (SIDDIS Brass). Havard Hedde did not succeed in getting married, but I think this version wil make him dance again. Torstein Aagaard-Nilsen

Christimas March - Edwin Franko Goldman

Among Goldman's many contributions to the band's repertoire, his pastiche marches such as Children's March and the Christmas March have been especially popular. Familiar seasonal tunes include Good King Wenceslas, Adeste Fideles, Jingle Bells, It Came Upon the Midnight Clear, The First Nol, Deck the Halls and Hark! the Herald Angels Sing. An optional short coda reduces the playing time to approximately 4:00. A handsome full score and judicious rescoring of the upper woodwinds makes this an ideal alternative for community bands looking for new sounds in a classic, yet familiar style for their December programs.
