Part of the new Barnhouse Jazz For Developing Concert Band Series, this very hip Latin-rock chart features a great vamp, memorable melodic lines, and solid ensemble scoring. Along with traditional big band, expanded instrumentation includes parts for flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, french horn, baritone, and tuba. The simple, two-chord, solo section is perfect for encouraging all of your students to improvise (suggested solos are included). This is a great chart for a young band, easy to put together, fun to play, and just right as a "change of pace" on your concert.

This work was commissioned in 1996 by the Arosa Cultural committee and first performed in Arosa in that year. The majestic introduction opens with trombones and euphonium, heralding a legato theme, chorale-like in character. A pair of flutes introduce a new theme. A trumpet introduces a series of highly syncopated solos, which feature many metre changes, and the tempo increases when playful motifs are exchanged between various sections of the band. A solo clarinet introduces an expressive tune. A brass chorale follows, with interruptions from the flute and bassoon, until the clarinet tune is played by the whole band. This reaches a climax and the mood subsides to reach a quiet horn chord. The broad legato tune returns and the excitement increases until the march theme triumphantly returns to full band. This leads to the coda which is based on the opening fanfare and closes the work emphatically. Northpointe Fantasy
Begins with a short, legato introduction before moving to an opening section with a bold, memorable first theme in the trumpets which is continued by the upper woodwinds. The low brass which had been providing a solid rhythm accompaniment then get the lyrical second theme. Following a nicely contrasting center section in 3/4 which begins with a flute section soli the work recapitulates to the powerful opening theme, and dramatic ending.

Nottingham Sketches
This delightful overture has a slightly British sound that is perfect for concert or contest performances by developing bands. The bright allegro section features strong melodic themes in the woodwinds that are followed by an impressive melody for all of the lower instruments.
