Courtly Dance and Procession - Brian Balmages
You'll be surprised to know that this great sounding work uses only six notes in all instruments, with the exception of the clarinets, which use a low written B to involve the right hand. The piece has a Renaissance quality to it and includes a middle processional theme (at the same tempo) to work on legato playing. Optional parts are included for clarinet 2 and trumpet 2. There is something for everyone in this dynamic addition to the repertoire!

An Irish Tale
Based on the folk song While History's Muse (subtitled Air: Paddy Whack), this delightful arrangement in 3/4 has all the characteristics of a lighthearted Irish dance. A tambourine and clarinet drone set the stage for the flute melody that is eventually passed throughout the ensemble. A key change to E= builds until the piece returns to the lighthearted style of the opening one last time. Great writing for young bands! (1:55)

Obviously, the music of John Williams is beyond comparison, but subconsciously one's thoughts do drift into that direction. Fanfare for the Sun is a radiant fanfare from the pen of Carl Wittrock. Nearly three minutes utmost concentration are required of your musicians to have them display stunning feats of technical brilliance. A moment of calm in this masterly composition is the vivacious and entertaining dialogue of clarinet, bassoon, oboe, and flute in the middle-section. The work was written as a commission by the Melomaan Foundation on the occasion of its anniversary. Een vergelijking met de muziek van John Williams mag uiteraard niet gelegd worden,maar onbewust gaan de gedachten wel in die richting. Fanfare for the Sun is een stralende fanfare van de hand van Carl Wittrock, die zijn voorliefde voor de filmmuziek niet onder stoelen of banken steekt. Rustpunt in deze korte doch magistrale compositie is de levendige en onderhoudende dialoog tussen klarinet, fagot, hobo en fluit in het middendeel. De componist schreef dit werk in opdracht van de Stichting Melomaan (Nederland) ter gelegenheid van haar jubileum.

It features some beautiful songs from the Cadiz province, with their fascinating Flamenco-rhythms. The person who commissioned the work requested it be dedicating it to his father, Lpez Odero, a talented clarinet player, after whom the piece is named.

Maurice Clark played the clarinet and the violin in the British military band of the 'Royal Engineers' from 1947 onwards. In 1956 he went to Kneller Hall, the famous military conservatory of music near London, and in 1961 he became bandmaster with the Royal Ulster Rifle Regiment. He composed some twenty novelties for wind band such as this humoristic piece Tyrolean Tubas.

JEF PENDERS (Hoensbroek 1928) is also a very popular Dutch wind band music composer who also does a great job as conductor, arranger and recording supervisor. In his novelty Glenn meets Wolfgang (1969) he arranged the tune of Mozart's 'Sonate Facile' into the Glenn Miller style. It proved to be a successful formula as this piece was followed by 'Glenn beats the Battle of Jericho', 'Glenn plays after the Ball' and, more recently, 'Glenn mucks about with the clarinet'. This is a selection of several dances related to the Scottish HORNPIPE. The hornpipe is an old traditional sailor's dance which used to be very popular in the British Isles. It is music full of spirit skillfully arranged for symphonic band. The percussion plays a very important role and should preferably be placed on a higher platform. If possible all clarinets should play the same part, though additional easy parts for 2nd and 3rd clarinet are included.

This composition, which puts the spotlight on the alto and tenor saxophone(s), is a real acquisition for the original repertoire. Uri Hodorov wrote it in 1998. Besides the saxophones, the flutes, the complete clarinet family and the snare drum also boast solo parts. Some exhalation effects, produced by all the members of the band, cause some strange effects. No doubt, here you have an original composition, which will please both the musicians and the audience.
