£90.30Omaggio a S.E.M. - L. Navisse
This concertmarch was composed in 1994 and it was dedicated to a medieval town. At the beginning you can hear the dissonant blares (trumpets, cornets, horns and trombones) symbolising the rivalry between the four districts of the town. Then, the piece is a symphonic march in Italian style but not completely traditional. Before the end, it is possible to hear the blares of brass again, but now they are melodious, so the piece turns sweetly to the end.

This march was composed during a Summer course, organized in the Youth Hostel 'Schnburg' on the occasion of the anniversary of the Tuba-player Erich Keller. It was also premiered over there, high in the mountains. It was sung (in four parts) by all the participants. This work can be played by a band, sung by a choir, or performed by the combination of both band and choir.

The legendary figure of Arthur, British leader, is mainly the result of folklore and literary invention. According to the tales Arthur, who in the most ancient sources is called "Warlord," defended Great Britain from the Saxon invaders between the fifth and sixth centuries. In the introductory measures of the piece, we can hear the basic themes developing freely one after the other. The first movement (Allegretto - march) describes Arthur with his most faithful riders galloping on his horse for simple rides in the woods or hunting moments. The second movement (Vivace - gigue), describes court dances to celebrate his victories over the Saxons. The third and last movement (Moderato - grandiose) portrays the special relationship between Arthur and Excalibur, the magical and mysterious sword that only he managed to extract from the rock before being proclaimed king. Excalibur's scabbard is said to have the power to protect King Arthur from being wounded in battle.

This work was written in 2005, prompted by the composer's determination that young members of junior, music school and conservatoire wind ensembles should not be limited to transcriptions for lack of original compositions, especially contemporary ones. The new devices used in the Little Suite are suitable for student players to try out. Indeed, they enjoy them - for instance, purring or whistling into the instrument. Each of the three-or-four-minute movements of this four-movement work can also be performed separately. The titles of the movements are the following: 1. In cheerful mood, 2. Song, 3. Joke, 4. March. This music in modern idiom, full of interesting new effects, offers young players an opportunity for enjoyable music-making together, and at the same time prepares them for playing more difficult contemporary works.

The old German fishing village of Hartheim is situated on the river plain of the Rhine between the mountain Kaiserstuhl and the countryside Markgrflerland. Its inhabitants enjoy life, and they know how to celebrate and have a good time. Wim Laseroms has captured the relaxed atmosphere of the village in this cheerful march. Dolce Vita is an expression of thanks to the band's most loyal fans for their support in the past, and it expresses how music can have a positive effect on the quality of life in a village.

Marchissimo will make a fantastic opening piece for any concert. It does however come with a twist! It can be played simply as written, but is really designed to be 'staged' with players coming on the concert platform one by one as they begin to play. The piece actually consists of three marches in one, each of which highlights a section of the band. The piece culminates in a final climax where all three march themes are played simultaneously.

Elgar's five Pomp and Circumstance Marches were written between 1901 and 1930 with number 1 undoubtedly being the most popular of the five. King Edward VII told Elgar that the tune would 'go round the world' if words were fitted to it. Elgar took the hint and included it (with slight rhythmic changes) in his Coronation Ode of 1902, with words by A. C. Benson. Thus was born Land of Hope and Glory which is now, of course, an integral part of the annual Last Night of the Proms, when the audience (with varying degrees of success!) sing the words along to the original march. Now your concert band can enjoy all the pomp and ceremony of the proms with this arrangement by Philip Sparke.
