Following an effective modulation, the piece finishes with a powerful restatement of the opening theme with woodwind countermelodies complementing the strong brass and percussion. This concert march with a solemn and festive character was commissioned to Gauthier Dupertuis by the the Musikkapelle Altheim e.V (Germany) to celebrate its 100th anniversary. The thematic material of the first section of the march is based on a three-note motif, proclaimed by the brass in the first measure. The second part of this theme presents a recurring motif throughout the piece. This first section has a festive and resolutely giocoso character. The trio presents a new, more lyrical and solemn theme. After a short divertimento based on the material from the first section, the theme returns in a majestic way, leading to a climactic finale. Altheim: a concert march perfect for a festive occasion!

£91.99Guardians of the Waves - Philip Sparke
Guardians of the Waves was commissioned by the Japan Coast Guard Band to celebrate their 30th anniversary in 2018. They gave the premiere as part of a 30th anniversary concert on November 8th that year. Set in traditional march form, Guardians of the Waves opens with a short introduction, which leads to the main theme, played initially by the brass and then repeated with a florid woodwind descant. The theme is extended and morphs into a second theme, first played tutti and then quietly repeated by bassoon, tenor sax and euphonium. This leads to a conventional 'bass strain', played twice with varying accompaniments. A quieter trio section follows, delicately scored and featuring the tenor instruments of the band. Taken up by the full band, this leads back to a recall of the introduction and a return to the main two themes, which lead to a triumphal close.Recorded by the Kobe College Wind Orchestra and its conductor Osama Matsuura

Viva Excelsior - Wim Laseroms
Wim Laseroms composed Viva Excelsior on the occasion of the hundredth anniversary of music society Excelsior in Losser (the Netherlands).After a powerful tutti entry, the percussion section bridges the period up to the first reprise. This festive march is then followed by a playful melodic theme in which the semi-quavers prevail, accompanied by a beautiful legato countermelody in the horns and euphoniums. During the second reprise a marcato bass solo and a technically sparkling and dynamic contrasting phase alternate. The trio features a new theme - starting from the chalumeau register and leading to an exuberant repeat in the brass with ornamentations by the high woodplayers.
