Written for the Chicago Staff Band's tour of England in 2015, this exhilarating work was premiered at The Salvation Army's Boundless International Congress at London's O2 Arena to an audience of 20,000 people. It has since been arranged here for wind band. The piece is structured as a through-composed triptych, weaving together the popularcontemporary worship songs Shine on Us (Michael W. Smith) and Speak, O Lord (Keith and Kristin Getty) with the historic Salvationist anthem The World for God (Evangeline Booth) to explore themes of light, guidance, and mission. The work opens with energy and rhythmic drive, centering on Shine on Us. A stark contrast follows in the meditative middle section. Here, the music explores the contemplative depths of Speak, O Lord, featuring solo horn. The final section introduces a nostalgic and stirring reference to General Evangeline Booth's classic hymn, The World for God. The finale juxtaposes all three themes. As the disparate melodies intertwine and layer upon one another, the music builds to a triumphant climax - a representation of 'illumination' that celebrates a shared faith across generations. Tre Sentimenti Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)
At last the bass clarinet can shine in this major new solo work for bass clarinet and concert band. This composition begins with a rather mysterious opening passage with atmospheric sounds and effects. The soloist plays - preferably backstage - a number of fragments and melodic patterns, without actually "starting" the piece. After this somewhat hesitant introduction, a lively, cheerful allegro entitled Con Giocondita (with joy) bursts out. It is swarming with irregular meters, changing tempos, and polyrhythm, through which the listeners (and sometimes also the musicians) constantly get the feeling that they are being tossed around. The second movement brings rest and peace making careful use of sound colours. The upbeat finale, titled Con Allegria (with cheerfulness), is the most significant movement for the soloist. This is a challenging piece of music that demands great virtuosity, but with the correct performer it will be a real highpoint in any concert..

Starbound is a strong, driving piece and relies on good rhythmic playing from the bass instruments. It is a good introduction to playing triplets for all sections of the band and this could be introduced in the preliminary exercise. The trumpet solo could be played by the whole section if preferred.Titles in the Prelude Series are specifically scored for bands with few, if any, bass instruments but will sound well on larger ensembles. The bass line is playable by any combination of bass clarinet, bassoon, baritone saxophone, trombone, euphonium or tuba; in the event that none of these is available, the part for trombone/euphonium (B flat TC) can be played by tenor saxophone. The tuned percussion part is entirely optional and can be played by any available instrument(s). Each piece also includes a preliminary exercise. This is always in the same key as the accompanying piece and consists of a scale and chord progression that can be used for improving ensemble, balance, intonation and instrumental facility by changing tempo, articulation and dynamics.Duration: 1:45
