Soaring - Sean O'Loughlin
Soaring is an exciting composition for solo trumpet and concert band. The music is celebratory in nature and features the dynamic and rhythmic range of the trumpet. The piece opens with an American rhythmic gesture reminiscent of Aaron Copland and John Williams. The trumpet answers this gesture with a bold cadenza that will transform into the main melody a little later on in the piece. If you have a good trumpet player, this would be a great choice to feature them or it can be used with a feature soloist from elsewhere. Just gorgeous.

Emblems - Aaron Copland
From Copland's program notes: An emblem stands for something - it is a symbol. I called the work Emblems because it seemed to me to suggest musical states of being: noble or aspirational feelings, playful or spirited feelings. Theexact nature of these emblematic sounds must be determined for himself by each listener.

Fanfare For The Common Man (Arr. Robert Longfield) - Aaron Copland
Arguably the most famous fanfare ever written! Now available in a version written with standard wind band instrumentation and playable by most bands. The key has been lowered and technical demands have been modified, however, this superb adaptation still maintains all the power and majesty of the original. Dur: 3:00 (Grade 3)

American Prelude (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - De Meij, Johan
American Prelude was commissioned by the United States Marine Band "The President's Own" and was composed in honour of the retirement of Colonel Jason K. Fettig, the 28th Director of the USMB. This short and energetic work features subtle hints to two of my favourite American composers, Aaron Copland and John Williams. The performance at Colonel Fettig's final concert with the Marine Band was the world premiere, given at the annual Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago, Illinois on December 20st, 2023.Duration: 4.15
