Breeze in the Forest was commissioned for the concert to celebrate the 60th birthday of Professor Haruyuki Nakatsukasa of Osaka Kyoiku University. "Kanreki" is a special term used to celebrate reaching the age of 60 in Japan. The composer was inspired by some of Professor Nakatsukasa's admirable characteristics upon composing this work: he speaks softly and at the same level as his students; he is fashionable, stylish and refined. The band accompaniment is at a moderate level of difficulty, allowing the solo flautist to choose this work for many an occasion.

In 2008, composer Philip Sparke published the latest volume of his instrumental books, Super Solos. Young German flautist Meinhard Drescher was so taken with these solos that his father secretly commissioned the composer toarrange three of the solos (Little Overture, Berceuse and Moto Perpetuo) into a mini-concerto for flute and concert band, which was presented to Meinhard as a 16th birthday present. Concertino Classico is in the standardquick-slow-quick concerto form and can be played by flute, clarinet or alto saxophone. Dur: 7:15 (Grade 4)

Effective use of Latin percussion is essential for good momentum. Don't be afraid to play bright and full. Many foreigners who travel to Thailand for the first time always wonder why Thai people love their king so much, even more than their own life. However, that question is quickly answered after they realize how much our king sacrifies his life to develop Thai people's way of living especially the poor ones. He proves that the "love" from his people doesn't come from his birth as the royal family, but from his hard-working. As a Thai composer, Pimpanit wrote this piece out of her love and gratefulness she has to her beloved king of Thailand, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, in the occasion of his 88 years old birthday. At this moment he already marks 70 years on the throne and he is also the world's longest-reigning living monarch, ascended to the throne. "Siam" was the name of Thailand before 1948.

Rejoice and sing! was written in celebration of the 95th birthday of Sir David Willcocks. John Rutter writes: I was delighted to be asked by OUP to compose a new carol in his honour. Writing 'Rejoice and sing!' I recalled the many happy Christmas concerts he conducted with the Bach Choir in London's Royal Albert Hall, thinking also of his fondness for quirky rhythms, hence the lopsided 7/8 which runs through much of the music. This arrangement is written for combined Concert Band and Chorus, but may be performed by band alone. It is compatible with the original version except that it is transposed down by one-half step (semi-tone).
