Divertimento No. 3 in E-flat, K. 166/159d - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
The divertimenti in B-flat major, K. 186/159b and E-flat major, K. 166/159d, were both written for pairs of oboes, English horns, clarinets, horns, and bassoons, and are considered companion works. Although the origin and inspiration for such an ensemble with odd instrumentation is uncertain, they are considered the first stage in Mozart's development as a wind music composer.

The Fall of Troy - Ryan Meeboer
The legend of the great city of Troy varies depending on historical or fictional belief. This city was the location of the long lasting Trojan Wars, between the people of Troy and the Greeks. The fall of Troy is probably most accredited to the Greek's plan to build the Trojan Horse, use it to sneak inside cities walls, and defeat Troy's army while they slept. This story comes alive in music with fanfares, a sweeping lyrical section and the aggressive attack on the Troy. Fun to play and fun to listen to, there is something great to play in each part.

Favorito - Ernesto Nazareth / arr. Daniel Maudonnet
Ernesto Nazareth (1863-1934) may have been the most important Brazilian composer to ever live. Credited with blending European and Brazilian influences in his piano compositions, he created many new Brazilian sounds in both the popular and classical music realms. Light and bouncy, Favorito was originally written for piano, but has been excellently scored here by Daniel Maudonnet for concert band.

Fiat Lux (March) - Howard Cable
In 1951, during the war in Korea, Canada's National Defense Department produced a radio series titled "Voice of the Army". The Howard Cable Concert Band was the main stay of this patriotic/public relations program. Half the musical content was military, the balance 50's pop. Thirty nine programes required two marches per show. I composed eight and at the war's end the music went to storage. Some years later I re-constructed several of these forgotten scores; one of which is Fiat Lux - Dedicated to the University of Lethbridge.

Gypsy Rondo - Joseph Haydn / arr. David Marlatt
Haydn is best known for his symphonies but his chamber music is also excellent. He wrote several piano trios and the best known of these is the G major trio with its so-called "Gypsy Rondo." The fun technical lines, originally in the piano and violin, are split among the brass quintet. The band parts are very light and straightforward which allows for some rest on a long concert.

Encircled - Jonathan Dagenais
"Encircled" puts recurring rhythmic passages in the foreground, reminding us of traditional military music. These passages are always enveloped in more modern sonorities and harmonies in order to combine tradition and modernity. Right from the first notes, we can hear the melodic/rhythmic motif which will serve as the main musical material throughout the whole work. With cadenzas, flowing lyrical writing, and powerful rhythmic drive, this is an exciting and dramatic work.

The Plains of Pangaea - Max Williams
225 million years ago, all of the earth's land masses were combined into one super continent- Pangaea. This giant land was inhabited by creatures totally alien to the world we know. Imagine if you could travel back in time and visit this primordial world. This work is an attempt to capture, in music, the experience of voyaging to The Plains of Pangaea. This work is very dramatic. Creative combinations of instruments create new colours within the ensemble. Great for concerts or contests.
