Race Against Time (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Smith, Robert W.

A thrilling musical adventure for your young band musicians, Race Against Time is a fast and furious journey with an educational focus on the time signature. Driving in 4/4 time, your students will like the intensity and strength of the musical race. However, they will love their journey through the "time tunnel" with simple yet effective meter changes. The Lost City of Shambhala (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Bell, Jeremy

The Lost City of Shambhala takes the listener on a journey to the discovery of the mythical utopia, nested in the Himalayas. In Sanskrit, Shambhala means "place of peace," and the music paints an Eden-esque landscape shrouded in mystery. But it is soon discovered that entry into the city is well-guarded and met with hostility as the music shifts to a heavily percussive, driving thrill-ride of shifting 7/8 and 4/4 time signatures. An exciting and energetic work that makes a fantastic addition to any program! Duration: 5.00

Desert Dances (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip

Henderson is a city in Clark County, Nevada, just southeast of Las Vegas and surrounded by desert: this was the inspiration for the title. Desert Dances opens with a lively introduction, mostly in 3/4, which pervades the faster sections of the piece. This subsides to introduce a slower dance which expands to a full-band climax. The introduction soon returns and leads to the main theme of the piece, a waltz-like melody played by the full ensemble. A short bridge passage follows, which leads to a legato central theme. This is played twice and heralds the return of the main theme and a short coda which closes the work. An imaginative work for concert or contest with nice features throughout all groups of the band.Duration: 4.45

Transformation (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Menken, Alan - Jeanbourquin, Marc

The 'Transformation' scene from Beauty and the Beast is one of the most impressive moments from the movie and a perfect example of how magical the combination of music and images can be. Marc Jeanbourquin has created a Grade 4 arrangement that is very close to the original score and sounds as if you are actually watching the movie. It is a little challenging, but guaranteed to have your audience on the edge of their seats!Duration: 4.00

Fivefold (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Oare, Michael

As the title might imply, this unique composition contains several references to the number 5. For starters, the meter of 5/4 is an obvious connection. More subtle is the prominent use of the interval of a fifth, and also only five different pitches used throughout the entire work excerpt for two measures near the end. Even though Fivefold is composed using single tempo, the variety in textures and moods makes this particularly appealing.Duration: 4:00

Pioneers of the Medway (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Phillips, Richard

The Salvation Army Band in my home town of Chatham, part of a conurbation of 5 towns in the South East of England known as the Medway Towns, celebrated their 135th anniversary in 2016 and this piece was composed as part of those celebrations. I suppose to some degree all composers and lyricists are pioneers, always striving to write something different and new. Well, there has been a number of 'creatives' who at one time or another have been members of the Chatham Corps and this piece includes songs from some of those. The opening motif is based on the 1st 3rd and 5th notes of the scale and after a short 'fanfare-like' introduction the tune of Blacklands (Ray Steadman-Allen) is heard in 4/4 time. This is followed by a song from Ray Jones, a former Bandmaster of the Corps entitled 'On resurrection day', a song for children's voices published in 1971 and for mixed voices in 2009. Rosemary Steadman-Allen's 'To know and do thy will' is at the heart of the link into 'Everywhere', a new setting of John Gowans' words by Andrew Maycock (both former members) which is proving to be very popular at the moment. Finally, an arrangement of this composer's setting of 'Praise the Lord' is used to bring this piece to its conclusion. It was first performed on October 1st 2016 by the Chatham band under the leadership of Bandmaster Ray Maycock.

Blue Lake (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Chance, John Barnes

Revised EditionCommissioned by the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Michigan and premiered in 1971, this dynamic composition by John Barnes Chance has a unique history. The outer sections of the work feature a rhythmic intensity created in part by Chance's free use of eight-note groupings of 2 and 3. However, when first published, the meter was changed to 4/4 resulting in awkward notation of these figures. Through painstaking research by Carl Bjerregaard, Donald Flickinger, and Myron Welch (all connected with Blue Lake) this revised edition restores the asymmetric meters as the composer originally intended.
