Eight Chorales for Elementary Band - Quincy C. Hilliard
Considered by many to be one of the country's top music educators, Quincy C. Hilliard has written this set of eight chorales to develop the intonation of your beginning band. These chorales teach much more than lyrical playing by covering the keys of Bb, Eb, and F Major, and time signatures in 4/4, 3/4, and 2/4. Also, all instrumental parts are very easy so you can focus on tone and musicianship. A must for every beginning band library!

Vision Quest - Chris Sharp
In Native American culture, the vision quest is a rite of passage for adolescents signaling their entry into adulthood. This powerful rite is captured in a bold new work by Chris Sharp. After a forceful introduction, a contemplative lyrical passage signifies the beginning of this spiritual journey. A bright 3/4 section then conveys thoughts of great bravery and leadership as the piece builds to its powerful conclusion.

An Irish Tale
Based on the folk song While History's Muse (subtitled Air: Paddy Whack), this delightful arrangement in 3/4 has all the characteristics of a lighthearted Irish dance. A tambourine and clarinet drone set the stage for the flute melody that is eventually passed throughout the ensemble. A key change to E= builds until the piece returns to the lighthearted style of the opening one last time. Great writing for young bands! (1:55)

The Lightning Spirit - Roland Barrett
The Lightning Spirit is based on the Aboriginal legend of Namarrkon, who sat in the clouds and hurled lightning bolts at the earth below. It makes use of a thunder sheet, a large sheet of aluminum available at most building supply stores. A contrasting lyrical section lets you focus on musicality with sweeping lines and soaring countermelodies. Incredible writing and effects bring the power of lightning right into your concert hall! Perseus Returns - Blake Buehler
Join the Greek hero Perseus as he completes his impossible quest to behead a monstress and save his mother in this march for grade 3 concert band. Perseus, the son of Zeus and Danae, was raised as a hero to protect his mother from King Polydectes. To be rid of Perseus, Polydectes sent him on an impossible quest to bring back the head of Medusa, the mortal Gorgon who could turn people to stone with her gaze. Taking pity on him, the gods gifted Perseus winged sandals to fly, a helmet of invisibility, and a bronze shield. He found Medusa in her cave and, using the shield as a mirror to avoid her deadly gaze, cut off her head. Perseus then escaped Medusa's vengeful sisters, donning the helmet of invisibility and winged sandals. As Perseus flew home, drops of Medusa's blood fell to the earth creating the coral in the red sea and the many-colored snakes in Libya. When Perseus returned, he used Medusa's head to turn Polydectes to stone and free his mother from her imprisonment. He then presented the head to his divine protector Athena, who placed it in the center of her shield.

Little Suite - László Dubrovay
This work was written in 2005, prompted by the composer's determination that young members of junior, music school and conservatoire wind ensembles should not be limited to transcriptions for lack of original compositions, especially contemporary ones. The new devices used in the Little Suite are suitable for student players to try out. Indeed, they enjoy them - for instance, purring or whistling into the instrument. Each of the three-or-four-minute movements of this four-movement work can also be performed separately. The titles of the movements are the following: 1. In cheerful mood, 2. Song, 3. Joke, 4. March. This music in modern idiom, full of interesting new effects, offers young players an opportunity for enjoyable music-making together, and at the same time prepares them for playing more difficult contemporary works.

Pomp and Circumstance Op. 39 - Edward Elgar
The English composer Sir Edward Elgar wrote the five Pomp and Circumstance marches between 1901 and 1930, the time of the British Empire, when the colonial and strategic world power of England was at its peak. March No. 3 in C minor, although less well-known then March No.1, was regarded by the composer as the most successful of the marches in terms of composition technique and musical content. The dark colours of the minor tonality and the hopeful sounding cantabile theme are extremely impressive, giving the march its unique character. This is a great chance to bring British pomp andsplendour to your performance.
