Fields of Deliberation was written by composer Kevin Houben for the 'Limburgs Fanfare Orkest'. The occasion was the concert cycle that appropriately commemorated the end of the Second World War (in 2020, 75 years ago).From the very first beginning till the end, speed, energy and 'drive' characterize this powerful composition. A magnificent lyrical melody is the common thread throughout the piece, without the rapid movement losing pace or intensity. Majestic, grand moments and energetic passages alternate culminating in an impressive highlight.This dynamic concert piece with a cinematic character is a challenge for all the different groups of instruments of the orchestra and is an added value for any concert program.

£137.99A Little Klezmer Suite - Philip Sparke
A Little Klezmer Suite was commissioned by Rushton Park High School to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their band programme. They gave the premiere in a virtual online concert in October 2020. Klezmer music originated in the 'shtetl' (villages) and the ghettos of Eastern Europe, where itinerant Jewish troubadours, known as 'klezmorim', had performed at celebrations, particularly weddings, since the early Middle Ages. 'Klezmer' is a Yiddish term combining the Hebrew words 'kley' (instrument) and 'zemer' (song). The roots of the style are found in secular melodies, popular dances, Jewish 'hazanut' (cantorial music) and also the 'nigunim', the wordless melodies intoned by the 'Hasidim' (orthodox Jews). The melodies used in the four movements of A Little Klezmer Suite have traditionally been used in Jewish wedding ceremonies and celebrations.

This beautiful composition was commissioned to provide purpose, direction, and comfort for two individual High School Band programs from the same district during the years 2020 - 2021. Virtual learning was established and weekly meetings took place between conductors, students, and composer to collaborate on how the piece would be created. Later, the finished product was premiered individually by both ensembles and a large contingent of family, friends, and school officials were able to share in the positive experience of hearing the music performed in a live setting. Very emotional!

Norge i rdt, hvitt og bltt ("Norway in Red, White and Blue") was commissioned by the Oslo Fagott Choir (yes, that is indeed a gay men's choir) for a concert with The Staff Band of the Armed Forces in 2015. I was given artistic licence to write a more modern and somewhat 'eclectic' arrangement for this originally Swedish melody written by Lars-Erik Larsson, which became something of a national liberation anthem when Nazi occupation ended in May 1945 - then with new lyrics by Finn B, Bias Bernhoft and Arild Feldborg.After the premiere in Oslo, and a music video with Oslo Fagott Choir and The Staff Band, broadcasted by Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK) on Constitution Day during coronavirus lockdown in 2020, I was approached by many to write an instrumental version of the arrangement for concert band. Rendezvous was commissioned by Krohnengen Brass Band for their 50th Anniversary in 2019. This version for Concert Band was scored autumn 2020.Rendezvous is devided into three sections. Each section are referring to Edvard Grieg's own titles. but twisted, to make sure that everybody understand that this music is a mash-up of themes Edvard Grieg used in opus 54 (for piano) and opus 61 (songs for children).1. Trolltog med avsporing (March of the Trolls derailment)March of the Trolls is a famous part of Edvard Grieg lyric pieces, opus 54.2. Klokkeklang i feil sang (Bell ringing in wrong tune).Bell ringing show that Grieg was one of the first composers to write the way impressionists did. What happens if this beatiful piece is combined with several other themes from the same book? It somehow works in its own way.3. Pep talk til Blakken (Pep talk to Blakken)The riff used in the first part becomes an important part of the third part: a funky treat of the childrens song "Kveldssang for Blakken" (Evening song for Blakken).I felt that a rather tired old horse needed a pep talk more than a slow tune. So that is why you get this music(!) - and this is how my rendezvous with Grieg ends.Not sure what maestro Grieg would have thougt... But, I have read that the fiddlers that played the tunes Grieg used was not happy with the way Grieg used them.So there you go...Torstein Aagaard-Nilsen

On August 14th 2020, the composer Noah Wada saw the Perseids meteor shower from a hill. He could clearly see many bright stars streaming across the sky, as if they were falling down on the earth. The dazzling sight was enough to inspire him to compose this overture."Starlit Landscape" was commissioned by the Kawagoe High School Band, Kawagoe City, Saitama, Japan and premiered on March 20th, 2023 by the band and Mr. Hiroki Mori, director."Starlit Landscape" is a sparkling overture from the Japanese composer Naoya Wada. It begins with a bold brass fanfare over a bright woodwind passage.
