Attila! (part 1 from 'Sinfonia Hungarica') Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)
Sinfonia Hungarica is a three-movement symphony that depicts the history of Hungary. All three movements were inspired by historical key figures, wars, and other important events from this country. This symphony is a celebration of Hungary's millennium in 2001.ATTILA, King of the Huns, often named "The scourge of God," is the central figure of the first movement, mainly characterized by fear, threat, aggression, and cruelty. Attila's brother, Buda, however, has a more heroic theme, while his beloved wife, Rika, has a lyrical melody. The exciting ending of this opening movement illustrates the dreaded speed of Attila's troops: they pursued their victims and killed them all! 0:12:45

Ceresio (Concert Band - Score and Parts)
The Ceresio, also called Lugano Lake, is located in the sub-alpine area between Lake Como and Lake Maggiore. Two-thirds of its surface is on Swiss territory, while the remaining one-third belongs to Italy. The lake has a peculiar shape, sinuous and characteristic for its unevenness. Along its shores, there are numerous tourist sites such as the city of Lugano, which stands out for its beauty. Commissioned in 2001 by the Lugano Police to celebrate their 100th anniversary, Ceresio is a piece with a Latin flavour, which is especially noticeable in the trio section. 03:15

Colditz Castle Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)
Written as a commission by the Stichting de Inrichting foundation of Wijk bij Duurstede (the Netherlands), Rob Goorhuis Requiem voor de mens (Requiem for Man) on lyrics by Andr? van Zwieten was composed in the year 2001. This work for choir and wind-band greatly impressed the audience, whilst its composer remained obsessed by its war theme. When he subsequently heard that the Rundfunk Blasorchester from the German town of Leipzig -a place not far from Colditz - was to dedicate a CD to his work, Rob Goorhuis got the idea to process some of the themes from his Requiem for Man into an instrumental composition about the famous Colditz castle. a place still bearing the scars of war. From 1933 to 1934, the castle was a Schutzhaftlager. During the Second World War, it was used as a prison for senior officers. From this prison, many escapes were undertaken, which even resulted in the castle being nicknamed The Escape School. In the seventies, a television-series about this period made the castle very well-known with the public at large. The despondent tone of the opening theme underscores the sadness caused by wars and violence. Nevertheless the works ending is hopeful and triumphant. Peace is celebrated, but with the hope for a lasting peace sadly remaining a topical issue to the present moment. 09:30

Excelsior Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)
Excelsior was composed by Rob Goorhuis in the year 2000 on the occasion of the 75th anniversary in 2001 of the Amsterdam-based concert-band Jong Excelsior. Excelsior is a one-movement fantasia, consisting of contrasting themes. The first theme (the Excelsior theme) is characterized by angular figures moving in an upward direction. The second theme is playful and humorous in nature. Rob Goorhuis, who was born and bred in Amsterdan, may even have utilized memories of his own juvenile pranks in this second theme. The third theme, which is introduced by the cor anglais is melancholy and melodious. The elements mentioned above interchange in a thoroughly captivating manner, which ultimately results in an attractive composition fully capable of adding lustre to an anniversary.
Maxime Aulio composed Les Voyages de Gulliver (Gulliver's Travels) for the concert band of the Conservatoire National de R?gion in Toulouse (France) conducted by Jean-Guy Olive. The first performance took place in Toulouse (Auditorium Saint-Pierre des Cuisines) on April 25, 2001. The Anglo-Irish author Jonathan Swift (1667-1745) took about six years to complete his epic tale of adventure. The creative storyline, clear writing and subtlety of Gulliver's Travels have been engaging readers for generations. This literary travel between reason and foolishness was Maxime Aulio's inspiration for this piece. Each of the four movements of this suite is a review of Gulliver's adventures, resembling the effect of a kaleidoscope, which juxtaposes small fragments of colour in a linear pattern. 0:19:00
