Marchissimo will make a fantastic opening piece for any concert. It does however come with a twist! It can be played simply as written, but is really designed to be staged with players coming on the concert platform one by one as they begin to play. The piece actually consists of three marches in one, each of which highlights a section of the band. The piece culminates in a final climax where all three march themes are played simultaneously.Duration: 4.30

Monticello is the name of a little place northeast of Rome where my wife and I have rented a simple home for more than 20 years. We participated intensively in the cultural life of the community where there was also a little band, the Banda Municipale Cornicolana, which consisted of about 55 wind players, mostly youngsters. One day, the "Il Direttore" came to me and asked if I would like to write a march for them, which I naturally did. It became the Marcia a Montecelio. After 14 rehearsals, with everyone tired, perspiring and red in the face, we were forced to give up. The march was too difficult for them. I then wrote another, easier march for them to perform at the forthcoming feast of San Michaeli. The Montecelio march was composed on pure inspiration in just two days. It is written in the Italian style - with a pinch of Sousa.

Marcia Romantica is a traditional march from Wim Laseroms. Following a distinctive introduction, a melodic theme in the woodwind and high brass is played alongside a beautiful countermelody in the reprise. After a powerful passage in the bass register, the original theme returns. Ideal for either indoor or outdoor performance, this will appeal to musicians and audiences alike. 03:10

Maria Durch ein' Dornwald Ging (Blest Mary Wanders Through the Thorn) is a traditional German Christmas song. The earliest known version is recorded in the Andernacher Gesangbuch from 1608. Halfway through the nineteenth century it was a regional pilgrimage song in Thuringen, and at the beginning of the twentieth century, the current version was registered in the songbook Zupfgeigenhansl of the German youth movement. Michael Bilkes used the well-known melody to create this attractive arrangement for concert band.Duration: 3:15
