Gloria (Concert Band with opt. Choir - Score and Parts) - Rutter, John - Noble, Paul
Gloria is one of Rutter's most ambitious concert works, and its premiere was the occasion for his first visit to the US, in May, 1974. Rutter himself sees this work as analogous to a symphony, with three movements-- allegro vivace, andante, vivace e ritmico--i.e., fast, slow, fast, in common with symphonic practice, and, says Rutter, "exalted, devotional and jubilant by turns". As with many of Noble's arrangements of John Rutter's compositions, this work is written for combined Chorus and Concert Band, but may be performed by Concert Band alone.

Gloria (from Mass of the Children) (Concert Band with Optional Choir - Score and Parts) - Rutter, John - Noble, Paul
Mass of the Children represents something new in the composer's work insofar as it was conceived with an integral role for a children's choir alongside an adult mixed choir, two soloists, and orchestra (now band). The role of the children's choir is to add a further dimension to the traditional Latin Mass sung by the adult choir, sometimes commenting, sometimes amplifying the meaning and mood. His musical understanding, sense of melody, harmony and orchestration are oftentimes fully capable of telling the story even without the text. In the setting for band alone, the children's choir part is generally set for solo trumpet.

Gloria Patri (from Magnificat) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Rutter, John - Noble, Paul
The final movement of John Rutter's Magnificat inspired Keith Allen, Conductor of the Birmingham Symphonic Winds (UK) to suggest it as a perfect candidate for a Concert Band piece. With approval from John Rutter, this setting captures his inspiration of the jubilant celebrations of Mary in Hispanic cultures and he conceived the work as a bright Latin-flavoured fiesta.

Gloria Patri (from Magnificat) (Concert Band with Optional Choir - Score and Parts) - Rutter, John - Noble, Paul
Magnificat anima mea (My soul doth magnify The Lord) is the first of seven movements comprising John Rutter's setting of the biblical canticle Magnifica, completed in 1990. Rutter was inspired by jubilant celebrations of Mary in Hispanic cultures and conceived the work as a bright Latin-flavoured fiesta. In countries such as Spain, Mexico and Puerto Rico, feast days of the Virgin are joyous opportunities to take to the streets and celebrate with singing, dancing and processions. This arrangement for combined Concert Band and Chorus may also be performed by band alone, and is a faithful representation of the original composition.

Gloriana (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Bocook, Jay
Commissioned by Furman University for the inauguration of its 12th president, Jay Bocook's Gloriana is based on The Faerie Queene, an incomplete English epic poem written by Edmund Spenser and dedicated to Queen Elizabeth I. In the poem, Queen Elizabeth is represented as the faerie queene herself, Gloriana. This stately work for winds and percussion has a regal quality enhanced by soaring melodies and punctuated with fanfare-like brass figures. The optional organ part provides an added dimension to the overall uplifting effect.Duration: 3:20
