Third Movement of A Tribute to Arthur Delamont.Imagine a band far off in the distance marching toward you - soft at first, the music becomes louder and louder; the red capes of the band sway in the wind, getting closer and closer. It was this image that inspired Flying Colors. Famed bandmaster Arthur Delamont always programmed a march in his concerts, and the hallmark of his band was their red capes. The work begins very softly with a distant snare drum beat. The trumpets enter quietly with the melody, and with each new melodic entry the music grows and intensifies to a roaring finish. This is a fresh new take on a march, and is sure to please players and audiences alike! Flying Colors is the third movement of A Tribute to Arthur Delamont and was commissioned by the West Vancouver Youth Band.Duration: 3:10

Flying Fortress (A Fanfare for Band) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Smith, Robert W.

This stunning fanfare by veteran composer Robert W. Smith was inspired by the historic and legendary Boeing B-17 aircraft used by the United States Army Air Corps in World War II. Beginning with a powerful timpani statement, the brass section responds with a bold introductory theme. Strong melodic lines interacting with woodwind flourishes make this piece sound more mature and difficult than the grade level indicates. We highly recommend this majestic fanfare for any concert, festival or ceremonial performance! Duration: 2.00

Flying the Breeze (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip

The Breeze Brass Band, based in Osaka, Japan, is a professional ensemble, which was founded in 1990 to encourage the growth of brass bands there. They have invited many leading British conductors, composers and soloists to share their expertise and without doubt have been responsible, through concerts and recordings, for a huge increase in interest in brass bands in their country.In November 2000 they reached their 10th anniversary and commissioned Philip Sparke, a frequent visitor, to write a piece to celebrate the occasion. Flying the Breeze was the result and the composer made the concert band transcription in 2004.The piece opens with three repeated notes (in the brass band version these were written Bs - BBB being the band's initials) and a short introduction leads to a robust theme from the clarinets, horns and trombones, which is then taken up by trumpets. A restless bridge passage leads to a syncopated tune from the alto saxophone and then to a third theme from a solo euphonium. A graceful second subject, initially on a solo clarinet, leads back to a recall of the introductory material before a full-scale recapitulation. An intense allargando leads to a full-band version of the second subject under a running woodwind passage, which leads to a short coda.Duration: 6:00

Flying Tigers (Concert Band - Score and Parts)

Outstanding concert or contest piece for mid-level bands depicting the story of runaway slaves making their way north via the Underground Railroad using " a lantern in the window" as their guide to safe houses along the way. Very dramatic and provides many opportunities for independent and expressive playing by your mid-level students. Much more sophisticated that is usual at this grade level.

2nd Movement of The Seas of the MoonFrom Robert Buckley's grandly cinematic suite describing impressions of the seas of the moon, Foaming Sea (2nd movement) was inspired by the composer watching the ocean during a violent storm with waves exploding and crashing. The sense of excitement and exhilaration eventually leads to the calm after the storm, as turbulent darkness gives way to light.Duration: 4:40
