Score only. Of all dragon species, the habits of the ice dragon, hidden away in its mountain fastness, are the least known. Spending most of their lives deep below ground in vast caverns they venture abroad very rarely. Fiercely territorial, encounters with others of their kind precipitate conflict, both immediate and violent. Those few people who have witnessed such encounters, and survived them, liken them to a kind of frenetic dance, hence the title of the piece. Heavily armed, intelligent creatures, the contests are highly ritualised. At the best viewpoint over the Alps of Liechtenstein, the village of Guflina is situated. Underneath the overhanging ledge, there is said to have been a cave in the mountain. In it lived a terrible dragon that was on the rampage on the surrounding meadows, spreading fear and terror among the population. At the same time there lived a giant man up in Guflina, who had the strength of twelve normal men. The farmers implored him to help them in their distress. The giant ventured to fight the dragon and was lying in wait above the cave. When the dragon refused to appear, the giant threw stones into the entrance of the cave. They got into a fight, which the giant only just won with difficulty. Since that day, people have lived in peace and prosperity.Duration: 7.15

Dragons Fly on the Winds of Time (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Neeck, Larry

An exciting and impressive composition that portrays an epic struggle in the distant past between the forces of good and evil. A wizard, a beautiful exotic maiden, a battle, and our hero are woven in the fabric of this musical tale. Sprightly melodies, lively rhythms and tasty writing for a whole battalion of percussionists produce an opening section which is full of energy and vitality. The flowing adagio section features a nice oboe solo (cued in clarinet) and a horn section soli (cued in saxes) that really make this piece special.
