The Toy Trumpet (Trumpet Solo and Section Feature with Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Scott, Raymond - Longfield, Robert

Composer Raymond Scott is known for compositions that were adapted for the classic Looney Tunes cartoons. One of his signature tunes, The Toy Trumpet, was famously sung by Shirley Temple in the 1938 film Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm, and versions by The Boston Pops and Al Hirt are classics. Perfect for a holiday concert or any "pops" event, this light-hearted arrangement featuring trumpet solo and section is sure to be enjoyed by all.

The Toymaker's Workshop

This charming holiday novelty piece opens with Bavarian-style folk melodies. We then hear a musical depiction of the toys with percussionists quickly alternating between traditional and accessory instruments while winds and brass add humor with glissandos, color punches, and imitation. Inspired by the hope, opportunity, freedom, and adventure of the formative years of the United States, The Trail West includes excerpts from selections as diverse as Promised Land, The Girl I Left Behind, The Riddle Song, and a hauntingly beautiful Dakota Sioux melody. Two fiddle tunes, The Arkansas Traveler and Old Dan Tucker, remind us of the important role music played in lifting the pioneer spirits. The Tree of Life (from The Gift of Life) (Concert Band with Optional Choir - Score and Parts) - Rutter, John - Noble, Paul

The Gift of Life was written early in 2015 as a commission to honour a retiring Minister of Music at a church in Dallas, Texas. In planning this piece, John Rutter has stated: In 1985 I had written a Requiem - which, like any Requiem, inevitably reflects on death - why not write the opposite, a work celebrating life? Unlike a Requiem, where a set form of words is laid down in Catholic liturgy, no framework exists for a celebration of life, and I had to choose (and in three cases, write) texts which were appropriate to a theme rarely expressed in music since Haydn's wondrous oratorio The Creation in 1798. The six movements reflect different facets of the miracles of creation and of life. This arrangement is written for combined Concert Band and Chorus, but may be performed by Concert Band alone.

The Trumpeter of Krakow

"The Trumpeter of Krakow" is a colorful programmatic piece which depicts the ancient legend of a trumpeter who saved Krakow from the Tartar invasion of 1241 by sounding a warning and, in doing so, sacrificed his own life. The music includes the "Hejnal," an authentic Polish hymn which is played today in Krakow on every hour in memory of the ancient trumpeter.
