The African Connection Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)

Carl Wittrock's wide interest in global folk-music resulted in this concert-piece based on original African rhythms. Obviously, the percussion section has a conspicious role to play, but the band too may indulge itself in moments of thoroughly delightful excitement. The introduction depicts the awakening of nature, and develops into a dance. The (main) motif of this dance is from a dance entitled Apollo and comes from Gambia. Its accompaniment consists of an ostinato pattern by balaphon-master Maudo Susa. The quiet middle movement is based on the rhythm of the 'gigbo' : a traditional dance from Ghana. In the final movement -which also bears a slight resemblance to a theme from 'The Lion King'- the so-called 'Kono' rhythm is used. The work is played most advantageously using djembes. Challenge and please your percussion section with 'The African Connection'. Carl Wittrock's brede interesse voor de wereldmuziek resulteerde in dit op originele Afrikaanse ritmes gebaseerde concertwerk. Het slagwerk speelt uiteraard een opvallende rol, maar ook het orkest kan zich op een heerlijke manier uitleven. De inleiding schildert het ontwaken van de natuur, welke overgaat in een dans. The composer, arranger and band leader Bert Kaempfert is considered a giant in the field of easy listening music. He wrote songs for world renowned stars such as Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee, Shirley Bassey, Anita Kerr, Frank Sinatra and many others. He created his own unique sound with the Bert Kaempfert Orchestra and had huge international success. His affinity with 'black music' is significant and his fascination with South African sounds led to their incorporation into several of his compositions and arrangements. The Air Race (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Schwarz, Otto M.

In 1934, the city of Melbourne celebrated its centenary and marked the occasion with the MacRobertson International Air Race. KLM's entry was its first DC-2, PH-AJU Uiver (Stork), which took off on 20 October 1934. Shortly before the finish, the plane had to make an emergency landing due to poor weather conditions. The following morning, the entire town turned out to dig the aircraft out of the mud, enabling to resume its flight. Nonetheless, the distance was covered in three days, 18 hours and 17 minutes: a winning performance! This programmatic piece tells the story describing the start of the engines in bar one, the flight over the clouds, the thunderstorm, the emergency landing and many more scenes!Duration: 9.30

This piece for symphonic band by Jerry Brubaker is a musical excursion into the American driving experience. From majestic mountain vistas and wide open spaces to the hustle and bustle of rush hour traffic. There is even a section about the beloved covered bridge. The piece is designed around just two themes which are tied together in the final section which the composer calls "Our Favorite Road".
