Sunrise (Horn solo) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Hart, Paul

Sunrise - a song to the sun, music to be warmed by. From its softly stroked opening timpani rhythm, setting the mood for a solo horn to emerge and expand as it makes its tonal journey serenely from East to West, the music is never hurried. A dynamic build to high-noon is followed by a return to the quieter sounds as the end of the day is reached and the soft rhythms of the opening are again heard. Altogether the composer has created a wonderfully evocative framework into which performers and listeners can place their own pictures.

Sunrise at Angel's Gate (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip

This piece depicts the refined beauty of the Grand Canyon at sunrise and sunset. These are the best times to view the Canyon with the sun low in the sky casting shadows that give depth and form to the vast panorama. Angel's Gate is one of the many named rock formations in the canyon. The composer has tried to depict the sights and sounds of dawn, birdsong in the early morning sky and the gradual revelation of the Canyon itself as sunlight reaches into its rocky depths.Towards the end of the piece, to the sound of a tolling bell, we are however reminded of the dangers that the beauty of the Grand Canyon so cleverly hides.Duration: 10:40

This creative work incorporates an intriguing combination of dramatic harmonies and syncopated rhythms which make it refreshingly unique. From the subtle opening to the lively percussive motives, "Sunrise Over Kilimanjaro" presents an outstanding programmatic perspective which features unique African-style polyrhythms and harmonies. This exciting work depicts the lively and sunny nature of the state of Florida. Opening with a brilliant and majestic section highlighting the state's bright and vibrant culture, a flowing melody follows, representing the calming winds and consistent breeze of the state. Dance is a large part of Florida's culture, especially in its southern region, and the 7/8 rhythm captures an Afro-Latin style dance movement. The chorale/hymn section is based on the "Florida Song," which is a traditional school song of many schools, including Florida A&M in Tallahassee. The work then recapitulates and moves toward a driving and joyful conclusion. An excellent contest/festival work! Duration: 4.45
