Sonata da Chiesa Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)

Sonata da Chiesa for organ and wind orchestra is a work in three movements. The first movement presents three melodic lines which are developed in turn. The second movement introduces a theme by Johann Pachelbel followed by several variations on the theme - a technique favoured by Kees Schoonenbeek. 'Scaff' is an adaptation of the famous 4th movement of the Symphonie Fantastique by Berlioz in swing style. The story of the 'March to the scaffold' is a tragic one where the subject, in a depressive state over a love interest, overdoses on opium. He dreams that he has killed his beloved and after his procession to the scaffold is now witnessing his own death. This arrangement doesn't really reflect those tragic circumstances but instead redresses this great tune into a toe-tapping 'big band' number.

SONATA FOR TRUMPET AND WIND ENSEMBLE (Concert Band) - Keenan, Kent

In 1986, Kent Kennan revised this well-known trumpet and piano recital piece (originally published in 1956) with a new ending for the first movement. More recently, he made this scoring for solo trumpet and wind ensemble and provided both the original and new endings in this new edition. A tremendous contribution to the solo trumpet repertoire!
