Fanfare for an Occasion - Philip Sparke

Fanfare for an Occasion was written to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the founding of Anglo Music Press, the publishing company dedicated to the works of British composer, Philip Sparke. It is a bright and festive work in which the main theme starts on the tenor instruments of the band before appearing as canonical imitation by all sections in turn. A short, repeated bridge passage leads to a second theme on the saxes that is taken up by the full band and leads back to a return of the main theme and a repeat of the second subject, which brings the fanfare to a brilliant close.

Commissioned by the Owen J. Roberts Middle School in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, the piece honors the school's namesake, Supreme Court Justice Roberts who served from 1930-1945. Composed using a single tempo Fanfare for Justiceprovides a nice feature spot for the entire percussion section along with variety in scoring from chamber-like passages to dynamic full band statements. Fanfare for Korea - Jacob de Haan

Fanfare for Korea was commissioned by the first Korea International Concert band Festival, which took place in 2010, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Korean War. In this triumphant fanfare, composer Jacob de Haan uses the melody of Arirang, the most popular folk song in Korea. The Korea Festival Concert band performed the premire at the festival, conducted by de Haan himself.
