After a solemn introduction, one hears the melody of the hymn Abide with Me, which was sung frequently during the war. Variations on the theme follow, finally leading to the magisterial conclusion that represents the ultimate liberation. Bring a bit of nostalgic history to life with this stirring composition.

Fairytale-Suite is an original work for beginning band. The name of the movements are taken from well-known themes from Norwegian fairytales. The music may not tell a story itselv, but it may be a good base for an exciting fairytale on a concert? This piece gives challenging parts to every player and it's a good choice to showcase the entire band. To the conductor: It's several doublings of the voices. This makes it possible to omit certain instruments or parts. The Drum Set part may be split and played by several players.

Ever Forward, Ever Onward - Amy Webb

Ever Forward, Ever Onward is a wonderful piece written in concert B-flat and only uses notes within the scale. The clarinets do not go over the break. If students have been playing for at least a semester, this piece will be just challenging enough to make them want to work, but not so hard that they give up. The lines are interesting, too, no matter what instrument you can play. Students will love to play this and I hope you have fun. 1st trumpet's highest note is A.

Everest - Jacob de Haan

Everest is the name of a restaurant on the 40th floor of a skyscraper in Chicago. In 2003 the composer Jacob de Haan had dinner there together with his publishers and other fellow composers. The idea of composing a march to honour the excellent cuisine, the magnificent view of the skyline and the pleasant atmosphere in the restaurant arose during the visit. The results can be heard in this delightful and unusual work.

Everest - Top Of The World - Elliot Del Borgo

A musical tribute to the tallest mountain on the earth, this brilliant mono-thematic work has striking bell-like effects in the brass and makes superb use of a large percussion section. Contrasts in texture and articulation are numerous and the music is alternately bold, aggressive and haunting. This is another fine selection that can be considered for contest and festival use.
