Evening Rise - Bert Appermont

This work is based on five folk songs from different cultures. Each song brings its own atmosphere and character, giving rise to a musical journey across the world in one continuous whole. Featuring Evening Rise (America), Lo Yisa Goy (Israel), Sakura (Japan), Finnegans Wake (Ireland) and Siyahamba (South Africa). The Native American song Evening Rise functions as a sort of chorus and thus creates a certain unity; each time the melody is arranged in a different way.

The warm, lyric nature of Evening Song creates a quiet and peaceful moment on concert programs. The flowing melodic lines create a calm and serene setting reminiscent of the peace and tranquility that comes at the end of a long and eventful day. While quiet in nature, the work makes a strong statement about the ability of music to directly influence ones emotion and feelings.

Evening Song (Abendlied) - Josef Rheinberger

Written in 1873, Evening Song is one of the best-known choral works of Josef Rheinberger (1839-1901), German composer, organist and teacher. Displaying an exceptional lyric quality and utilizing a full range of dynamic contrast, Shelley Hanson's arrangement is specifically designed with flexible instrumentation to be performed in a variety of ways. This piece is equally effective whether performed by a traditional concert band or by a smaller chamber ensemble.

Evening Waltz - Virginia Allen

OLD SETTLERS' PICNIC is a is a four-movement suite for Band by Eric Ewazen, arranged by Virginia Allen; each movement is published separately. Composed with high school performers in mind, the suite was inspired by an 1890s photograph and descriptions of a Wisconsin town's "Old Settlers" celebration. As the party winds down, EVENING WALTZ is a beautifully melodic and lilting waltz movement.
