Coro degli Armigeri - Giuseppe Verdi
A technique much employed by Verdi is to alternate main scenes of a drama with others which allow the listener to relax temporarily. These moments are often entrusted to the choir (as in the case of the well-known Rataplan in La forza del destino). In Trovatore, the soldiers' chorus precedes the scene of the capture of the gipsy woman Azucena by Conte di Luna's men. The soldiers are about to attack the fortress of Castellor in which Manrico (the troubadour) and Leonora, together with many other rebels, have found shelter. The very easy-going choir is in blunt contrast to the following scene in which Ferrando, the loyal squire of Conte di Luna, recognizes theold gipsy woman. This recognition marks the beginning of wicked developments for all protagonists in this drama.

Coro dei Gitani - Giuseppe Verdi
Often, individual parts of operas become very successful, independent instrumental pieces. An outstanding example is the Anvil Chorus from Giuseppe Verdi's opera Il Trovatore. Thanks to its symphonic characteristics, it is especially suitable for concert band transcription without losing its original character.

Corona - Wim Laseroms
This attractive concert march starts with an elevated, determined intro, followed by a playful theme in the descant register - with, in the reprise, an added counterpart in the tenor register. The following stately bass solo is accentuated by the trumpet section, and a dynamic contrasting effect adds extra colour. The trio part starts with a new cantabile theme, which transforms into a solid tutti version with ornamentations in the descant. After a dynamically varying interlude the trio part is repeated.

Coronation March - Giacomo Meyerbeer
Giacomo Meyerbeer (1791-1864) was a German opera composer of Jewish origins, who has been described as perhaps the most successful stage composer of the nineteenth century. From 1831 until his death, he remained a dominating figure in the world of opera. His contemporary Hector Berlioz summed up his public career claiming that he 'has not only the luck of being talented, but the talent to be lucky'. His works made him the most frequently performed composer at the world's leading opera houses in the nineteenth century. Giacomo Meyerbeer composed his opera Le Prophte in 1849. In this opera a coronation is preceded by a splendid march. Although the opera itself is rarely performed, the Coronation March has gained a place in the concert repertoire.Franco Cesarini's arrangement for concert band of the Coronation March stands out for its skillful instrumentation which underlines the powerful sounds of this classic concert march.
