Concertino for Trumpet - Kees Schoonenbeek
The first movement of this work, an Allegretto, begins with a fanfare-like opening. After a number of other melody lines, a reprise of the beginning follows, which ends in a cadenza for the soloist. Movement two, titled Rituel, is characterized by interplay between the soloist and the band within a stately melody. In the final movement, the theme of the first movement's opening returns. As the indication 'alla marcia' of the last movement suggests, this Allegro Giocoso contains march-like music that guarantees a lively conclusion. With Concertino, Kees Schoonenbeek has written an appealing work that is very suitable for a beginner soloist. It is also available for trumpet andpiano.

Concertino for Xylophone - Jan Bosveld
This composition was commissioned by "Koningin Wilhelmina Wamel" on the occasion of its one hundred year anniversary. That it is a composition for xylophone and concertband lies in the fact that Harmony has a very talented, young percussion player in the person of Barry Jurjes. The piece is both melodically and harmonically based on four notes (C - Dflat - F - G). The structure is divided into four parts: slow - fast - slow - fast.

Published in 1962, this adaptation of the exciting classic takes full advantage of modern symphonic band instrumentation to achieve an artistic performance of the solo with band accompaniment. Beautifully arranged by Alfred Reed, each set includes detailed notes for the conductor and a superb Master Lesson by clarinetist Don McCathren (Duquesne University) to aid soloists in their preparation of the piece. Abundant cross-cues are also provided in the band parts to ensure that exposed bassoon, alto/bass clarinet and F horn passages are clearly heard. Duration 9:00.
