Charm - Kevin Puts

Composed by 2012 Pulitzer Prize-winner Kevin Puts, Charm is a short, joyful piece written in the meter 7/8. Of the title, Puts writes, I decided to call it Charm because, for me, the music conjures up magic, good-luck charms and such, and I was also thinking of the other meaning of the word, that intangible quality possessed by certain people and places that truly can cast a spell. Charming Salzburg - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Salzburg, birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, inspired Dutch composer Henk Hogestein to write this musical tribute. Mozart was born in this charming Austrian town in January 1756. He was a musical prodigy - at the age of four he began receiving lessons from his father Leopold and at the age of six he was composing smart minuets and other short pieces. The composition Charming Salzburg is based on a theme from Mozart's opera Die Zauberflte, which he completed in 1791. The greatest composer of his day - the greatest of all time according to some - the brilliant Mozart wrote some of the world's best operas with Die Zauberflte was his last.

Chase Through The Midnight Forest - Darren W. Jenkins

Chase Through the Midnight Forest was written for the 2010 Chisholm Trail Junior High Area 5th Grade Band (which includes the bands from Arbor Creek, Madison Place, and Sunnyside Elementary Schools) in Olathe, Kansas. The piece is meant to create the suspense of a harrowing chase and pursuit through a deep, dark, and eerie forest at midnight, never quite sure who or what might be close behind. Friend or foe... the only thing that is for sure is that the chase is on... and stopping to look behind you could be the biggest mistake you ever make...
