It is bold, energetic and contains all of the rhythmic interest and melodic drive that have become the signatures of Sean O'Loughlin. Written in tribute to the Hanover Township in New Jersey, O'Loughlin honors its important days during the American Revolution and its current position adjacent to the budding hub of New York City.

In recent years, Oklahoma has seen a great increase in the development of wind energy. This development in sustainable energy sources and the winds that flow across the great state serve as the inspiration for this composition. The piece begins by depicting the great open spaces that stretch for miles across the Oklahoma landscape. Small gusts of wind (represented by scalar and arpeggiated passages in the mallets and woodwinds) dance across the landscape. The piece picks up pace as the wind races across the land, turning the turbines and charging towards the future. (5:30)

Winds of Hope is an overture for wind orchestra that celebrates the zest for life, the ability to look beyond the horizon and always find a way, even in adversity.Through a musical journey that opens with a lyrical and airy theme, like a wind that brings with it promises of renewal, the music comes alive with rhythmic and vibrant bursts, full of energy and determination. In the central part the lyrical and expressive character re-emerges, like a deep breath that instils a sense of calm and invites reflection. The finale culminates in an overwhelming rhythm that envelops the listener like an enchanted carousel in a whirlwind of light and motion. Winds of Hopeis an ode to fortitude and the will to embark on life's journey with courage, letting oneself be guided by the wind of hope.

Winds on Fire - Bert Appermont

This work was commissioned by two fanfare bands from Loksbergen and Kortenaken in Belgium, that have merged to form one single ensemble. This festive work has been constructed using two contrasting elements: a rhythmic, fast theme full of character, combined with a melodic, sensitive and slow theme. The title refers to the enthusiastic, fiery character of the opening passage, the fast section, and the renewed passion and drive that has been created due to the merging of the two bands.
