Here is a unique and creative setting of the familiar tune Greensleeves (What Child Is This?) that opens with the melody scored softly for the woodwinds. The full ensemble contributes a series of harmonically rich phrases until the work reaches an emotional climax at the powerfully scored key change. This importance of wind was the inspiration for Maxime Aulio's work Whispering Wind with its suspended atmospheres, vaporous lines and luminous colours. The wind caresses the canvas. Whispering Winds - Brian Balmages

This well-developed lyrical selection hardly sounds like a grade 1.5 and is very appropriate for upper-level ensembles as well. Brian uses some innovative effects as he portrays the sound of a gentle breeze that almost seems to be whispering. Limited range and technical demands move all focus to musicality. Strongly consider this captivating work.
