This innovative work makes use of an optional piano part that is most likely playable by someone already in the band. It was written in honor of Matt Rhodes, a student at John T. Baker Middle (Damascus, MD), who passed away during a battle with spina bifida. It represents his kindness, courage, and determination despite his confinement to a wheelchair. An opening ethereal section and chorale moves into an exciting portrayal of life which concludes with a humorous ending that was very characteristic of Matt. A very musical new composition which teaches much more than notes.

Through Darkened Sleepy Hollow - Erik Morales

Depicting a harrowing night of ghosts and horse chases, this intriguing work recalls the very night Ichabod Crane was chased by the Headless Horseman. The dark atmosphere is immediately conveyed as slow tromboneglissandi add to the eeriness. Suddenly, the chase is on! For a moment, Ichabod thinks he may have escaped the apparition, but we soon find out this is not the case. The chase begins once more as the piece moves quickly to itsinevitable conclusion. Fantastic colors and imaginative!

From the opening ominous chimes and haunting flute melody to the rapid staccato notes and final thundering ensemble accents, this piece evokes images of mystery and suspense. Loosely based on scenes from Sherlock Holmes stories, Through London Streets follows the mythical detective as he searches misty lanes and foggy boulevards for his foe. This is a serious band work from a composer who is quickly becoming one of the most popular composers for young players.
