At Kitty O'Shea's - Johan de Meij

For countless years the legendary Kitty O'Shea's, a bar at the Hilton & Towers Hotel in Chicago, has been the favourite meeting place for participants of the annual Midwest Band & Orchestra Clinic. It was at this bar that Johan de Meij met Max McKee, from whom he eventually received a commission to write a work based on the folk music of McKee's Irish forefathers. De Meij immersed himself in the project and received unexpected help when, while purchasing an espresso machine from a neighbour, discovered the owner was Bill Whelan, composer of Riverdance. At Peace - Conaway

"At Peace" provides bands of all levels an opportunity to show off their sensitive side. Beautiful and memorable themes are carefully balanced with very playable phrasing and doublings, making an expressive performance possible for bands with limited instrumentation. Simplicity of rhythm and range makes this work accessible to very young bands, while rich sonorities and expression help encourage a mature sounding performance. Highly recommended!

At Sight (March) - Harold Bennett

Wearing his Harold Bennett hat, Henry Fillmore turned out some especially delightful marches. At Sight is a particularly breezy example of the Bennett style, and Larry Clark's respectful and adroit young band arrangement is a real winner. The lighthearted and tuneful character of this little gem is a wonderful way to teach young musicians the joys of the March style and form.

At Sunrise - Rob Romeyn

Inspired by a sunrise over the water in the composer's home state of Florida, "At Sunrise" includes a beautiful and memorable melody moving amid changing textures and harmonies, leading to a magnificent full ensemble. It begins gently, with a transparent quality to portray the first signs of light. Breathtaking colors then unfold with the rich, lyric sounds presented here with uncommon sensitivity, leading to a dramatic final climax. From here, the work subsides, ending as it began, leaving a spell not soon forgotten. Ideal for concert and festival use, this is lyric music of the highest quality!
