Just a little bit on the easy side of grade 2, the second clarinets stay under the break throughout and the ranges of all instruments very reasonable and provide a strong solid sound. The very musical legato section features two short solos for trumpet. Excellent material for building confidence in young players. Don't miss this one!

Aspirations - Larry Clark

Aspirations is written for the youngest and least experienced of musicians, who have only had a short time on their instruments. This piece uses minimal material, including no more than two repeated eighth notes as the most difficult rhythm. It contains bold fanfare gestures, marcato melodic material, and a contrasting legato theme. Every section of the ensemble is featured in this surprisingly sophisticated, yet very attainable piece.

Aspire - Mark Lortz

This celebratory piece for younger bands uses driving percussion and rhythmic ostinatos to create an overall sense of energy and passion for excellence. Opening with a resplendent fanfare, the music gains momentum, constantly moving forward, even through a softer section of longer note values. After introducing a new syncopated motive the initial fanfare returns, this time supported by an intense rhythmic pulse to the triumphant flourish.

Assemble the Minions! - Jeffrey S. Bishop

Assemble the Minions was originally composed for and dedicated to the members of the Shawnee Mission Northwest High School Class of 2013 orchestra program. This group had a special bond with their teacher, composer Jeffrey S. Bishop, and the term "minions" became attached to this talented group of hard-working and often mischievous musicians. From the hard-driving rhythms to the almost comical middle section, the piece has a buoyancy and playful character reminiscent of Saturday morning cartoons.
