The Ghosts of Edinburgh - Jay Taylor

Quite possibly the oldest inhabited fortress in history, Edinburgh Castle evokes emotions of mystique and wonder. This work, scored for beginning bands, uses mysterious themes, creative orchestration, dynamics and percussion to take the listener on a musical journey through the dark corners of the old castle. Excellent for teaching blend and playing with soft dynamics. Optional bass part.

The Gift of Joy - Rob Grice

This piece starts out at a good joyful tempo in 4/4 time with a contrasting middle section in 3/4. The syncopation in the opening and end makes for a very exciting feel. The middle section has more of an easy, flowing melody. Clarinets cross the break. 1st trumpet's highest note is G.

The Gipsy Baron - Johann Strauss Jr.

The operetta The Gipsy Baron is, together with Die Fledermaus (The Bat), the most famous theatre work by Johann Strauss Jr. A libretto full of romance, original musical ideas, compelling Viennese dances, fiery rhythmic Hungarian music and beautiful arias, were just some of the ingredients that lead to its huge success. The Gipsy Baron can also be thought of as a comic opera. The main motif of this overture won first prize in a contest that was to provide a new Hungarian anthem, however because Strauss did not have Hungarian nationality, another melody was chosen. A great transcription to bring a Hungarian twist to any programme.
