Prillar&Halling - for Solo Clarinet and Wind Band - Stig Nordhagen

Prillar has it's origin from Norwegian folklorist music. It's a way of calling and singing the cattle home from the fields. Halling is a wellknown folk dance from the valleys in the eastern part of Norway. In this work, the clarinet use the prillar to get the other musicians to join in. The melodic material in Prillar and Halling hasn't got all the sound of Norwegian folklore exclusively. You can also hear folkloric music from other nations. The idea is to show the similarities between these and also the small differences there are between folkloristic elements from a large area. The piece also contains the folk tune "Adam in paradise", from south of Norway. At the end, thetunes are stacked on top of each other, and the similarities of origin turns out. - Stig Nordhagen -

This work describes the development of a local village band as it grows in both size and ability to become a symphonic wind band. It is dedicated to all orchestras that follow the same, sometimes hard, road. No matter what, the focus should always be the music, providing us with the energy and motivation we need along the way! With this in mind the march Prima la Musica reflects a spirit of change and optimism from the first to the last note.

Prima Luce - Jan Van der Roost

Prima Luce (First Light) was commisioned by the Holy Angels Elementary School located in Aurora (USA). The name of the town (which means dawn), the town's great religious history and the fact that this town was one of the first in the USA to have streetlights were the inspiration for this Gregorian influenced atmospheric composition.

Primal - Sean O'Loughlin

As the title may suggest, primal energy is key in this guttural new piece from composer Sean O'Loughlin. After a dissonant fanfare the piece drives forward with angular rhythms and biting harmonies. A short lyrical section gives the listener a nice break before charging like a runaway horse to a dramatic conclusion.

Primal - Todd Stalter

The entire band becomes a percussion instrument in Primal by Todd Stalter. This programmatic work portrays the instinctive and primitive human drive to gather together for ceremony, celebration, or survival. The ensemble will unite to transport the audience to ancient millennia via the music's bold melodic and harmonic statements and thunderous hypnotic rhythmic action. (3:30)

Primal Dance - Andrew Poor

Andy Poor always writes fun music for beginners. While playing an easy melody, the students get to clap and stomp their feet. The shortest valued rhythms are eighth notes. Clarinets do not cross the break. 1st trumpet's highest note is A.
